click on one of our sponsors! OR REMOVE ADS
Does anyone know of any good softaware for this?

Preferably something I can obtain free of course. Anyone have some they are willing to share?

I have tried a couple but none of the ones I can find log both sides of IM convos.

Thanks.

The only free ones I know of are trojan horses/viruses (sub seven etc.). There are commercial alternatives available for $$$ of course. There is a free trial of Perfect Key Logger here, http://www.blazingtools.com/bpk.html
You can also get a hardware logger that goes between the computer and the keyboard. See here: http://www.keyghost.com/

Google now makes Google Desktop. It will allow your IM conversations to be searched, as well as files, email, web searches, etc. It works quite well

I'm not sure if that is what you're looking for or not. It is free and easy to install.

I think he is referring more specifically to something that will remotely log a conversation between a specified screen name, say, and whomever they are chatting with. I've kinda looked in to finding something like this too (not for entirely devious purposes, there are just times when I'd like to find out if people are, say, talking behind my back) but haven't been able to locate one

I will check that one out looks very interesting. The hardware one won't log both sides of the convo only what you type.

I sort of found a way around it, but I don't care for it.

I installed ghost keylooger http://www.keylogger.net/ a while ago and it logs keystrokes very well.

With that I was able to obtain the IM password and then sign onto the account invisibly and enable IM logging.

Then whenever I want to read the convos, I just sign on and read. The only bad thing about this is if in Yahoo, if there are offline messages when you sign on they will be lost, so whoever you're spying on may get hip if they are frequently missing offline msgs.

Thanks everyone for suggestions, keep em coming if you have em!

If you are just trying to log your own conversations, get an instant messenger client called Trillian. It will log all of your conversations and is not considered 'spy software'. If it's for someone else, can't help you there.

Yeah...I use Trillian too. It's a great program.

Re: Spy (AIM, Yahoo, Keystroke Logging) Software

There's several popular programs for doing what I think you want to do... but I don't think any of them are free (at least not legally free).

A simple one is called "Family Key Logger"

A more advanced one, that also takes screenshots, records chats and websites visited, passwords, and all keystrokes, as well as having the option of emailing out reports to another location is called "Perfect Key Logger" by Blazingtools. The bad part about this one is most spyware programs catch it, and TrendMicro's online scanner actually flag it as a trojan virus.

I've seen another one called "Handy Key Logger" by Widestep. I have not seen Spybot, Adaware, or PestPatrol pick this one up.

All of these run in stealth mode... nothing in control panel, task manager, or system tray.

Re: Spy (AIM, Yahoo, Keystroke Logging) Software

thanks! I'll give em a whirl. I have one that does the email thing but I always worry it won't go through somehow and will bounce back to whoever is using the computer to see somehow?

Thanks again!

Re: Spy (AIM, Yahoo, Keystroke Logging) Software

The software won't use a direct access - it's kinda hard to explain but basically it won't use Outlook Express or anything like that. What you do is set it up (internally within the program) using you own email account. That way, if something does bounce it would be bouncing back to your own account.
