As I'm going through the list of threads posted here, I've come to a rather startling discovery. Everything posted basically shows a complete willingness for people to segregate themselves from others. Even me, as much arguing as I do on here. Christians vs. Seculars, Teachers vs. Students, Gays vs. Straights. It's always about seperating ourselves from everyone else. How many ways can one group seperate themselves? Why can't people just come to the conclusion that not everyone is alike... and that's fine? I'm different than a lot of people on here, but I still enjoy everyone distinct personality. Someone back me up here! :happycow:

It should be noted that as many times as Jimi and I have delivered the e-conversational equivalents of furious donkey-punches to each other's kidneys, I actually think he's an all right dude, all things being equal.
Perhaps a little (read: a lot) on the argumentative side, but if I insisted on holding that against a guy, well, I'd just be setting myself up for some serious self-loathing.

That said, I think the specific nature of the E.O.T.H. disscusion perpetuates many of the "this vs. that" topic choices we see, instead of it being a sort of reflection of our own attitudes.
The Bottom of the Hole already handles all things nonsensical, which covers a broad range of topics, so by the time we get around to posting here, it's bound to be something relatively serious and opinionated, as a matter of course - and what gets more opinions to be aired than a spirited discourse about why 'Thing A' is better than/worse than/not even remotely comparable to 'Thing B'?

Even simple posts concerning...oh, I don't know, a link to some "serious" article on the political reformation of one Third World Country or another because the poster thought it was a neat idea will end up in debate about why this regime is better than that one, why such-and-such issue needs to be addressed before so-and-so can effect any change, or why this country is doing it but that one isn't...because debate is simply the easiest, most accessible mode of "serious" discussion.
Everyone has an opinon, and whether those opinions are informed or not, we all love to tell everyone else about them anyway.

Besides, everyone agreeing all the time just gets so damn boring.

Personally, I would hate it if my friends, and family agreed on every issue around. That's dull. What would you talk about? I've seen and interacted with all walks of life and I'm happy to say I'm better for it!.

I have friends that are gay or lesbian, voted for Kerry, agree with war but disagree with abortion. I even have friends that hate the Lakers, Eagles, and Mariners!!

But I love then for that. Thank god for difference.
