I have the same computer. Have fun with that. works like a dream. you should have got intel centrino though... centrino works best with laptops. with the pentium 4, its going to suck up all your battery life. 2-3 hours max with p4.

Re: I'm a nerd- this excites me

I wanted pentium 4 w/ hyperthreading because 95% of the time, this machine will sit on my desk at home. I just wanted a laptop because of those few times it will come in handy. That's why I don't mind it being over 9 lbs and huger than my ex girlfriends ass.

It was $1300 because I bought it refurbished. I lose 9 months of warranty time (oh no!) Products break after the warranty expires anyways, and I don't keep computers more than a year (my last laptop I sold I had only had for 6 months).

Then fedex took it for the weekend cause no one was home to sign, and I couldnt pick it up.

Good luck!

WOW! That's excellent. It seems like you sold yourself short on RAM though. Why go for the hot chip (pun intended) without letting it really rip? Oh well, you can always upgrade later.

I agree, you should really get a gig of RAM i have and it allows me to get really lazy, like playing DoD, Hosting a WC3, lightwave and The gimp all at the same time along with my 101 things that startup @ boot

I used to have 512meg, but honestly you can really feel the difference when you have a gig

I would have spent round 1500 getting this rig up and running... I'm sitting on a 3.06Ghz, 6800GT, 1gig of ram pioneer 108-D, asus mobo (p4p800-E deluxe), then we have the case + cooling :D

granted i still have my HDD from my other comp....

No offense foxshox1, but making urself look thuper by ridiculing others is not quite nice. I wonder what percentage of your choices are optimal, and what could be improved upon. Oh well.

Don't mean to troll here, but had to respond to that. Oh, and good luck with your system utopic, it sounds like ur gonna have fun with it. Go forth and hunt demons or something related.

Irony:

The laptop came. DOA. Fuck! Sent it back, got a replacement. Turned on, but gave some shitty "wireless adapter not recognized, replace and reboot" error. Removed the mini-pci wireless adapter, laptop worked fine. HP warranty exchanged the mini-pci card, and I was good to go. For 2 days. Then the hard drive crashed. FUCK! Sent that one back, bought a dell.

Fuck computergeeks.com! TWO dead laptops!

Bought myself a dell 700m, centrino 1.8ghz, 1.25gb RAM (1 gb stick, and a 256 stick), 80gb hard drive, dvd+/- RW and dual layer support. The centrino 1.8 benchmarks fairly close to the p4 3.2 in a laptop, so I didin't give up much speed. I went from a 17" monitor to a 12.1" widescreen, and from 9+ lbs to 4. I have an lcd to use at home, so I think I found my ideal match.

Oh yeah, and the battery on my 700m is giving my 5+ hours! (I bought the bigger battery).

Total cost of 700m: $1400 (I love techbargains.com)
