Laptop suggestions?
Ok, Heres a couple of questions for you computer gurus. I'm thinking of buying a laptop, it will be used for surfing the net, basically just killing time, possibly for watching dvds when traveling. Im wanting to spend around 1000 or so. I want a new or pretty new one. I want ethernet card for home use but also want wireless capability. What's the difference between the wireless a/b/g? I don't get it and I'm to lazy to go find out myself. I have a router at home now and don't want to buy wireless cards for both my other computers is there a way i can go wireless on just this one and leave the other computers wired.??? Anyway all comments and suggestions appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Laptop suggestions?
Difference between the a/b/g wirless:
b runs at [Wireless-B (802.11b)} at 11Mbps; this is the most common. The newest, almost five times faster, Wireless-G (draft 802.11g) runs at 54Mbps; starting to become the noram. Wireless-A (802.11a) uses the 5GHz band and runs at 54Mbps.
Your best bet is to get a card that supports a/b/g.
Your router at home needs to be a wired/wireless router so you can keep your desktop wired and your laptop wirless. I would get a a/b/g router.
Dell and IBM are pretty good laptops; different models for differetn budgets.

I have a compaq laptop and I love it. For $1k, you should be able to get a laptop that natively supports b/g (g is backwards compatible). 802.11a is harder to find, and VERY rarely used at this point. If you get g, you'll be fine for the next couple years anyways.
