Wireless Networking???
I have 2 computers that I would like to be connected to DSL internet. One computer is in another room and the other is in the same room as the switch(or whatever its called). Can the computer in the same room be connected without buying a wireless adapter since the switch will be next to it. What exactly do I need to do this? Really quick, can my cable modem work with DSL?

Re: Wireless Networking???
First, cable modem's are for cable internet, DSL Modems for DSL internet. If you sign up for DSL, you'll get a modem. Second, a switch won't do you any good, you'll need a router, or set your computer next to the modem to share it's connection, and have 2 ethernet cards installed in it. Wireless routers come in different configurations. I think the most common are, wireless router with no ports, wireless w/4 ports, and wireless w/8 ports. If you get a wireless router with 4 ports, you can hook 4 components to it, and wirelessly connect 250 or so, depending on how it's setup.
Hope it helps a little.

Re: Wireless Networking???
He states that he's running a switch, which means 1 of two things. He either has a switch, which can't split an internet connection, or 2, he's got a router, and someone told him it's a switch. As long as the wireless router has ports for pc's, then he can hook into it. If not, he'll need wireless cards for both.

Re: Wireless Networking???
I don't have anything yet. One of my computers is going to be next to the router. Can that one computer hook up to the wireless router without any hardware? The other computer is in another room. I would like to have wireless unless there is some reason why I should have a wired network.

Re: Wireless Networking???
Like Utopic said, the one next to the router can be connected with a cat5 cable, a regular ethernet cable. Just make sure the router you get has ports on it.
