DVD problems

I can't watch any DVD's on my computer. I have tried using WMP 10, Interactual, and this program i found online called ViPlay. The movie plays fine but the color is all messed up. It is almost like it is only using a few colors to run the video. My monitor is on 1280X1024 resolution and the highest color setting. It was on the medium setting before and when i changed it to high it only improved slightly. any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Re: DVD problems

It seems to be all dvds and the one i was watching was a store bought dvd. Divx movies work fine though and so do internet videos. The video card is a cheap on-board one but i have never had any problems with it until i bought a new monitor. Although i am not sure that the two are connected.

and no i have not tried intervideo... i will see if i can try that later today after my finals

Re: DVD problems

ok i got some extra time to try intervideo and yes it is the same problem.... and i looked at divx and realized that it does have the problem too. So the only thing that shows correctly are internet downloads. It looks like all movies have horrible coloring

Re: DVD problems

troubleshoot- swap out each device involved one by one until you solve the problem. I'd start with whatever device you added most recently first- in this case, the monitor. If another monitor has the same problem, you know that isn't the issue. Swap out the vid car (or just add another one and use it).

Re: DVD problems

You might try setting your resolution down and see what happens.

Re: DVD problems

u could try removing all your codecs in add remove programs and then grabbing the latest kazaalite codec pack from www.free-codecs.com ,,, they also have heaps of other codec packs u can try if u have trouble with the kzlite ones... intervideo is a good program so i doubt that's your problem, also maybe try getting the latest video card drivers for your video card

Re: DVD problems

I dont think its a codec problem since you are using a DVD. Have you tried powerDVD?

So this PC used to play DVD video's when you used your old monitor? What type of monitor did you used to have? And what are you using now? What resolution were you using with your old monitor?

Try lowering the Resolution down to 1024x768 with 24-36 bit color.

dvd playback is still compressed media so it still relies on codecs....

Re: DVD problems

I will try downloading new codecs as soon as i get back to school since i am at home using dial up and my other computer isnt even connected to the internet. Last time i checked the video card had the latest drivers and i have tried settin the resolution lower... so hopefully the codecs work.

As for buying a new computer i am in college and can write papers and do research. I can even play the few games that i ever want to since i usually play ps2... a new computer would be nice but its not in the budget and the one i have works fine except when trying to play Dvds... if i wanted to play dvds that much i would buy a DVD player for my form because its a lot cheaper than a new computer. Thanks to all who have tried to help in a serious way. I will get back to you when i get back to school.
