Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if any of you know any good free Flash development software. I thought it'd be fun to put my crappy drawing and programming skills to the test and make a little movie or something in Flash, but it seems Macromedia is bloody expensive.

I really have no idea where to start...

Doesn't Macromedia own the patent on Flash? Wouldn't that necessarily preclude third-party Flash development applications?

The only one I know of is from Macromedia.
I think I've seen programs that can convert animated GIFs and AVIs to SWF, but it's a straight up conversion with very little control over the result....plus I could be wrong about seeing such programs

After I posted I did a lot more searching about it. Seems Macromedia has a monopoly on the development of flash programs. So I'd have to pay about $500 for it unfortenately. Since a 30-day trial that they have really doesn't give me enough time to reach full capability to see if I'd really want to get into it.

Alternately, you can risk getting a crack for the trial version (I did that with older versions, when I was dabbling). Try www.astalavista.com. Just be sure you have a damn good popup blocker, and you're nowhere near your place of employment.

U can use a program called SWISH or SWISHMAX.

this post is mostly directed at those individuals that are not as comp savy as some of the other fine folks here at WR .

IF you get a cracked version , i would suggest that you be very cautious about dl'ing/installing it ... to be sure , we all know (noobs notwithstanding) about the risks involved with visiting warez sites (as well as those with a clean looking front) ... damnable popups/backdoor/viri/scum/malware ... kinda like a 10 dollar hooker . better to be safe rather than sorry .

one day i got a call from a friend ... comp problems ... yeah , it was sick , choked up , slow , etc etc ... it was full of the above plus there was a background program running that was using his machine/connection as a freakin' "server" for some crapola . he built a pot of coffee and we started in on cleaning it out . many hours later , the machine and his critical data were saved (nice to win one once in a while) .
the machine had been fine up to the point where he downloaded a cracked program ... he had burnt it to disk immediately ... i checked the files on the disk ... yeppers , there were a few ... (ahem) ... "extras" included at no charge !!
