Steroid testing in MLB
Linky
You get 5 chances to be a good boy? If the league isn't going to take this as seriously as we had planned, then why even do anything about it? I've been saying for several years that baseball is getting out of hand. Yeah sure -- home runs are great to watch, but who wants to see 4 home runs in one game, much less by the same player? Doesn't that take some of the "sport" out of the game? Roger Maris' home run record stood for 37 years before McGwire broke it in 1998. 37 years. Since 1998, you've got guys hitting that many home runs EVERY year. Gee ... do ya think that steroids are playing a part? Have any of the ballparks shrunk in size since 1961? You do the math.
Testing with penalties will only begin after any season in which more than 5% of of survey tests are positive?????? So ... 4% of baseball on steroids= ... but 5% on steroids= :thumbdown
Yeah, makes sense. Baseball is so washed up. It used to be my all-time favorite sport. Those days are long gone. I'm so glad that the NFL has its own channel now. At least I can be content with the football channel during the summer months.

Re: Steroid testing in MLB
ugh. Bud Seilig is the death of the sport. Baseball had a chance with a cubs/rsox series. Didn't happen.
Just by announcing this they make themselves look bad.

Re: Steroid testing in MLB
No shit. He is THE Anitchrist of baseball.
I dunno if even a Cubs/Sox series could revive the wanning interest of Americans on "our national pastime".
National pastime. HA! What a fucking joke.

So, Seilig isn't my favorite guy in the world. In fact I would throw him out if I had any say. But the main reason the drug policy is so weak is because of the Players Union. There would have been no drug policy at all if former players hadn't spoken out and if the media hadn't made such a big deal out of drug use in MLB before the last Collective Bargining agreement.

Re: Steroid testing in MLB
True. But that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Am I the only who wants to see a salary-cap put into effect in MLB? That way maybe somebody else can have a chance to win the World Series.
Have you heard that the Yankees are now courting Curt Shilling? Because, you know, they don't have enough talent on the team the way it is.
FUCK STEINBRENER!!!!!!

Re: Steroid testing in MLB
hey ya gotta give it up to Steinbrener! The guy spends the cash to win. Sure he is in a great location that allows him the cash. So the cubs are too, only the Tribune Co. has only recently started dropping some.

No, I bitch about him because he is, in essence, cheating to win.
I said I'd like to see a salary cap put in place, not that I wish the Dodgers would spend millions of dollars more on players.

I agree with the cap. I don't see how he is cheating.

Its competition. He is a superior leader, of a superior team, that just happens to be killing baseball...

The system sucks.
He sucks for taking advantage of the sucky system.
But the system is a bigger problem than he is, because any other owner in NY would be making the same business moves that he is. So fix the system. Accept a true Salary Cap.

He's not a superior leader ... he simply has more money than anyone else.
Now you tell me -- does being the richest person in baseball entitle you to a championship? Simple question -- yes or no?
I'll agree that the Yankees are killing baseball ... literally.

yes.
Sorry man. The system is the way it is.
I am not saying it is right, just it is what it is.
Superior leaders win. He wins.

Again, it is just because he has money and the system lets him use it.
And if being a Superior Leader means being a jerk, berating your employees, and stiflingthe opinions of others, I guess I never want to be a Superior Leader.

I just lead myself, if anyone follows, cool.
But for the topic, Steinbrenner OWNS. Not right, but it is true none the less.
