Is anybody else tired of this anti-hazing bullshit? This goes for greeks, but also people on sports teams, even marching bands. Apparently, if you seperate a pledge (or rookie) from a brother/sister or member, thats hazing. If you make them wear a shirt, thats hazing. If you drink in front of them and dont let them its hazing, and if you give them something to drink its hazing.

I understand that people should not be put into great physical danger, but whats wrong with a little "hazing". Is this society so pussified that this is illegal now?

Btw, im greek. Anybody else got an opinion on this?

The hazing were people get hurt is gay. End of story. Otherwise, no harm, no foul.

Re: Hazing

if you need a little club to let you know youre all big and bad, you need to get a life...

hazing where people get hurt is just plain wrong.....its ok to have fun, but most people have friends for that...they dont need a bunch of people that hardly know em to hang out with them to seem like they have a life

Re: Hazing

There's a fine line to everything. I remember hearing about one university hazing incident where a girl drowned because they were in the ocean, early in the morning. Those girls didn't show good judgment.

Re: Hazing

The only kind of hazing I approve of is when it is in good fun and no one gets hurt. Embarrassing costumes are good. Slaps in the face are not.

I thought the whole point of joining a "club" was to make friends? Why would you want toe beat the crap out of a future friend?

Re: Hazing

I never really got into the hole, "pay for friends" so that "they can sodimize me with a paddle" and "drink a fifth in an hour and puke my fuckin gutz up and maybe die" all in the name of friendship. The few frat parties we attended in college were so gey that never stayed more than an hour. IMO frats are an excuse for a bunch of guys to act like eltists in college. College is the time to be friends with everyone, have lots of crazy sex and drug fueled nights. With so many people around who needs to pay for friends. (little known fact all frats charge dues and some are pretty spendy)

Actually, yes.
Well, not on the rest of your post, but on your claim to being "Greek".
You're not, so shut the hell up, would you?

This same terminology came up in a thread several weeks ago, and I politley kept my mouth shut, but it seems now to have become a recurring theme with fratties coining their affiliation by totally mis-labelling themselves (and while, yes, I understand that it's something you all do, that doesn't make it any less wrong), and to bite my tongue about the same thing twice in a row requires that I simply be a much better person than I actually am.

Simply put, if you have no Greek ancestry in your family line, if you were not born in Greece, or if you are not a legally nationalized citizen of Greece, you are not Greek.
No! Greek!

That's like, had I been a member of the Cub Scouts as a child, if I were to go around now telling people "I'm a Bear."
"I'm a Bear," means one of two things:
"I'm a cave-dwelling Ursine who sleeps for 6 months out of the year and eats raw fish" or "I'm a burly, hirsute, gay male".
I am, for the record, neither.
Just like you're not Greek.

Re: Hazing

Hazing is definately OK in my mind to a point. I played baseball through high school and college and hazing definately happened. The hazing im speaking about is shaving kids heads, eyebrows ect. maybe making them do something embarassing and maybe a few half assed punches to the ribs. On the other hand the shit like stickin crap up guys asses doing anything that involves genetailia is alittle wierd. Its the sick fucks doin that shit that make all the bible thumpin conservatives go ape shit. I say punish sick fucks, because whether you sodomize a guy you dont know or one that is joining your "group" its still a sick crime.

what she said.

the banning of any type of hazing should come as no suprise on todays politically correct liberal leaning college campuses. hazing can be used as a form of excluding undesireables from the group. cant do that these days.

why anyone would subject themselves to that type of behavior is beyond me.

Re: Hazing

Hazing is ok to do as long as there is no physical danger involved. GDI's will never get this because they dont know what its like to commit themselves to something like that. Going through a pledge season is very tough thing to do, you have to be commited. Also hazing will help bond brothers or sisters together because once your whole pledge class goes through a ritual or a hazing event you become stronger because you cant allow any of your brothers or sisters to fail. Again GDI's have no idea because they have never gone through something like that.

Re: Hazing

ROFLMFAO

sorry man...i keep thinking about "Animal House"..."thank you sir. may i have another?"...

so this whole "you become stronger because you cant allow any of your brothers or sisters to fail" thing is life long, or just till everyone graduates and moves on in their life? 20 or 30 years from now, some frat brother you forgot about suddenly shows up and is struggling, you going to go out of your way to help this guy cause you pledged together back in college?

i'm curious how this works. i opted to work after high school instead of going to college. i dont recall ever hearing old frat house stories by any co-workers over the decades.
