Re: animal testing..

This is a weird topic for me, since I work with animals all the time. Without these animals, though, much of the current research would never have been gained. I hate the idea, but it means saving lives.

I think we should cut the testing out, and go straight to torturing you.

If you meant Loril, you deserve neg rep for this. Remember, bro, this isn't bottom of the hole. If that's his opinion, then good. You can't make threats in here, no matter how empty. I also read what he wrote, he deserves it as well.

As for my opinion, the symptoms of human reactions to certain toxins, medecines, or even make-up, reprouced in animals for testing, are just that; reproduced symptoms. They can never reproduce actual human reactions in animals. A dog can drink from a stream or even antifreeze, but the littlest bit of that stuff and ur a gonner.

when they said that fake sugar (name escapes me, I think its sacharine tho) found in gumis said to cause cancer. You know how they came to this conclusion? They cut a rat open, and put in about 10 packets and stiched him up. That would be like a cubic foot of that crap inside of you. Do you think you could accumulate that much? No.

PCP is horse tranquilizer, but has the opposite effect on people. Chocolate in high doces can kill your average dog.

All this research is counter productive.

Re: animal testing..

Juan, thanks for getting my back and good points on your post. But for everyone of those examples, there are many more examples of great things coming from animal testing.

I love animals. But I think I am ok with testing. I am complete agreement with killing animals to feed me so I guess I can be in agreement of killing animals to heal me.

His quote was WAY off topic... don't just automatically jump on my case because of my reply.

Many animals, such as primates and porcines, are physiologically similar to humans. There are particular symptoms of certain inflictions that all animals suffer from, including allergies. Evern reptiles shouldn't have some substrate, like cedar, because cedar is a high allergin in animals.

Cancer is cancer is cancer, and if cancer can be stopped in a rat, chances are, it can be stopped in a human.

I didn't just jump on your case, I got on his as well.

Rat's are not even close to being in the same species as humans. Sharks don't get cancer. It's a proven fact. Scientists have been studying why for years, and yet we have no cure. Chances are, they are wasting time and money.

Name something good that has come out of animal testing.

Re: animal testing..

Sharks DO get cancer. The fact that they don't is actually an urban legend, albeit started on actual previous belief. Toads, however, do not get cancer.

MANY things have come from animals testing... medications need to be tested on animals before available for human usage. I didn't say rats were closely similar, I said porcines and primates were, and that chances are, something that works on a rat would work on us.

Re: animal testing..

A lot of advances in medicines has come as a result of animals testing. However ona side note, I cant think of ever doing these things to an animal that did nothign to deserve it. I'm an animal lover and think its cruel, even though I see the good in it.

Re: animal testing..

I have no problem with "cruelty" to animals. I hunt, fish, bullride, etc. I just have a strong feeling against testing things on animals to be used on humans when nothing great has ever come from it. Cures and medication for all the viruses etc we have, have never come directly from any testing on animals.

Re: animal testing..

My best friend has a brain tumor. It's something called astrocytoma. I wasn't going to bring this up, because you know... my roommate just dying, and reporting bad news always sucks, but since this subject was brought up, I will.....

They are finding, in rats, that a particular protein combination that makes up the venom of a species of scorpion in Israel is showing significant shrinkage in this particular type of cancer. From rats, they move on to other animals more closely related physiologically to humans. If using these rats helps save my friends and family, I am all for it.

I love animals, I work with animals, I own a business working with animals. I hate that this is necessary, but it is.

(I posted this before, but there were like 5 posts after. so I moved it down.)
