Rednecks rejoice
As I sat up on Tuesday night, wednesday morning looking at the election results coming in , I couldn't help but notice that the more backward and redneck the area, the more likely it was that bush would win.
And the more urban and wealthy the area the more likely a Kerry victory.
Is this generally true?
The last time I was in NY, I did not meet one person who didn't despise GW, I thought this was a reflection of how everyone in the country must feel, I was very very wrong.

Whay exaclty made you think that the opinion of a few New Yorkers reflected on how the majority of the country felt about our president??

Re: Rednecks rejoice
it wasn't just a few...
it was everyone I spoke to.
I didn't meet one person who agreed with anything Bush said or did, not one.
I would've thought that anywhere, even in Texas, you'd get a few dissenters from the popularly held beliefs, but not in NY. To a man they despised this reformed draft(draught?) dodging coke fiend.

Re: Rednecks rejoice
I agree though. Every person I spoke to were voting for Kerry, and the exit polls showed those same numbers. However, saying "all the rednecks states" voted for him isn't true... but close.
Any state that has a MAJOR impact on our economy was in favor of Kerry, i.e. California and the entire West Coast, to include Washington State which is Headquarters for Microsoft. All of New England was infavor, considering those are states with major ports to bring in trade and includes New York City. All the states with almost no impact on our government or economy voted Bush "supposively".
The midwest states really serve no "major" purpose in running our country. With that in mind, their views are more towards world peace and resolving Iraq. It's hard for any of those people to understand how things are in Washington DC or anywhere else. It typically takes me an extra 30-45 minutes a day to go through 4 security checkpoints, and 3 seperate metal detectors at work. Each checkpoint has those raising metal baracades and about 5 Capitol Police SWAT guys. Even though I have a pass to enter the lot, a photo ID to the Capitol Building, AND paperwork, they still search with mirrors under the car, dogs sniff around, and I have to get out. This holds true for EVERY car entering that area.

Just one example.
Without the Midwest states you would starve to death. Where do you think most of your food comes from?
No major impact?

LOL I got bad rep for that.
I cant stand people using the term rednecks. That word to me pisses me off just as much as nigger pisses off a black person.
I fucking hate that word.
Since when did people who live in large cities in Texas or other red states become rednecks.
Rednecks is a derogatory term used for dumb farmers/ranchers and it's thrown around waaaaay to much.
Most people would not have the will or the brains to take care of your family, send the kids to college if you had to make your only money off of the land you own.
You think being a rancher is easy dumb work?
You have to manage cattle, fields, breeding and you have to be able to read the market and know when its time to take the heifers, steers, cows or bulls for maximum $ per lb any given week. You have to know when to cut off balls or to sell the young bull before he starts breeding.
You have to know what type of hay or vegitable in any given year is going to yeild the most $$'s. You have to know how to fertilize and manage those fields. You have to know when to plant and when to harvest and all of the care in between.
I grew up on a small ranch outside of San Antonio, my father lives there still. I do not have an accent most yankees think I would have. I never dressed the part of a cowboy or rancher, I've never owned a cowboy hat, cowboy boots, lassos or a six shooter. But I did throw bails of hay around the barn for hours, unloading and stacking, a feat that would get most here huffing and going through dry heaves at the 10th bail. Loading cattle, taking them to market and managing fields.
I always laughed at all the "shit kickers" at my school that dressed the part and then went home to their house in the burbs.
You learn alot when you work with the land, with your own hands. The value and satisfaction of one of the most physically exhausting jobs on the planet, but you love every minuite of it.
You learn a certain outlook that can never be taught through books and I still cant explain most of it.
And if someone calls me a redneck there is a inner rage I feel and I want to tear someones throat out.

I love you justin... well said about your later post regarding how hard and inteligent is to be a farmer and how the midstates contributes to the economy
as an indiana girl... and being named redneck... I do not know if to be offended or flatter...
where do we get our fancy cars? hollywod?... where do we get the most of the steel?... virginia? ... where do we get most of our corn?... new hampshire?... where do we get most of our computers? ... new jersey?... where do we get most of our beef? buffalo? ... and inumerable examples..
I'm not taking any merits to another states because the mayority there voted democrat..they contribute to our economy different ways... at the end we are the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA... but do not judge us without really knowing our culture
any bets in who is winning the busch series? ... Gordon all the way baby !!

IMO the states that voted Kerry are the most backward states in our nation. I also despise people that try to use "Redneck" as a derogatory statement towards people that live in the south and midwest, i'll take Redneck as a compliment though :happycow: Im with Justin on this one....STFU, and i don't care if it gets me neg. rep....your post is total trash.

Re: Rednecks rejoice
Hmmmm......Lets see here! I live in rural farm country in Michigan. I have either been workin on or living on farms since I was 12. I love farming. I drive a couple old pickup trucks, I love to go mud boggin', I hunt, fish, trap, collect guns, listen to country music, grow a beard, wear Wranglers, boots etc, I voted for BUSH! So, I guess this makes me a redneck, and if I am a redneck, I am mighty proud to be one. I work for a living unlike most sissy prettyboys these days. Oh and also.... We country folk are not backwards. We are smart. its these City slickers (you know the New Yorkers who voted for Kerry that you speak of) who aint none too bright. Man, I would go friggin nuts if I lived in the city.....

Re: Rednecks rejoice
STFU Farm Boy!!!! hehe, us New Yorkers are plenty bright! I don't knock you farm yokels so don't you knock us city folk!
(hopefully no one takes this post seriously...except for the fact that there's no reason to talk crap about New Yorkers...besides, being the people that actually experienced the terrorism first hand i think they deserve quite a bit of say (or whatnot) in what goes on) <--- that comment is just tied in to something jon stewart mentioned as how the people most effected by terrorism (NYers) didn't even vote for Bush in the first place...blah blah blah.

I gave you the rep back Justin :jill:
Anyway, are these topics really of serious disussion or should they be moved over to the bottom of the hole? Just because its politics, doesn't mean its serious.
