he's almost gone... so what do you think will happen after that... uprising in Gaza? Israel attacks? Israel attacked and USA getting involved? (there is a short trip from Iraq)

Re: arafat death
I hope that new, fresh leadership will finally come forward for the Palestinian people. The last elected leader could not operate because of Arafat's unwillingness to share power. I'm sad to say this, but I'm hoping his death will be the catalyst of peace in that region ... though I don't see it happening in the next 5 - 7 years without active involvement from the US administration.

Re: arafat death
Arafat was offered almost everything he wanted. He rejected it.
He should have died years ago.

Re: arafat death
I hope he dies and soon. He has long and very tight links to terrorist groups in the past. He is trying to play the statesman nowadays, but as Henry Rollins said: "A pig wearing lipstick and pearls is still a swine". In a way I hope he doesn't die, because the situation will get worse, but he needs to be replaced with a moderate who'll work for peace, not simply just accept that blowing people up is an acceptable politcal strategy.

Re: arafat death
Arafat is a shithead leader that should've died long ago. I agree with Justin 100%.
His ties to Terrorist Organizations in the past was strong and regardless of what anyone says, is still strong to this day.

Re: arafat death
I would guess that you have maybe two out comes. The first is that Arafat dies leaving a power vacuum and all of the terrorist groups begin to scramble for power beginning a civil war and depending on the outcome will dictate The response of Israel. The second is that one of Arafats people take over and nothing changes.

Re: arafat death
is anyone else confused? First he was dead, then he wasn't, then he was on life support, then he wasn't, then was in a coma, then he wasn't, now palestinean officials are saying he's dead, and the french deny that? what gives? I hate the damn media when it comes to stuff like that.

Re: arafat death
His very funeral is going to cause problems. he wanted to be buried in/near the Dome of the Rock, and there is no way the Israelis can allow a Palestinian leader to be buried in Jerusalem. It illegitamizes their claim to the city.
If they get their way, Jerusalem won't be a very fun place unless you happen to be a suicide bomber.

That doesn't even make sense. If we buried Osama bin Laden in the US, does that mean his people own our country? Israel's idiotic actions of refusing Arafat's SIMPLE, NO-DOWNSIDE last request because of their arrogant religious pride is going to make him a martyr, and they're going to get bombed more. Furthur proof that Sharon is just as bad as Arafat, both need to die.
Peace in Israel will only be possible when people can put humanity and brains above gods. Until then, stupidity and pointless hatred will reign.

Well the Oslo peace accord gave Arrafat pretty much everything on a sivler platter. When he wanted more (honestly I can't remember what it was) and didn't get it is issued at infada (spelling ?) and the suicide bombing began again.
Now what kind of peace are you gonna find through that mentaliity. As much as the Palestinians have suffered he should have been a good leader kept the peace and moved on.

Re: arafat death
Yeah, both Arafat and Sharon are dipshit religious fanatics who dont want peace, they want the subversion of the other side. Both reject everything and then have the nerve to blame the other. What's quite annoying, though, if the biased media coverage of Sharon as if he was worth a damn. I honestly don't know why they do that either, this is a man who's insulted Americans and Christians on numerous occasions, often kicking both out of his country, and gone against the will of the US a ton. We have a more trusted ally in freakin' France .

On a side note, maybe the French could do everyone a favor and let the cofifin fall out the back of the plane when they fly his body back.

Re: arafat death
Hey Falldown, it is nice to see that John Howard is at least willing to call a spade a spade. Ie he was pretty hash, but truthfull in his comments about asshats I mean Arrafats failure in taking the peace deal from Camp David and saying that, "history will probably judge him harshly."

Re: arafat death
He was a terrorist, a thug, sent children out with bombs strapped to their bodies, and ripped his own people off to the tune of 4 Billion dollars. His wife will "subsist" on a measly 22 Million a year while the Palestines live in poverty. May he rot in hell.
