Re: rifle season
Elk and deer season is grerat and all for the locals in Colorado, but what I hate is all the gun crazy Texan/Oklahoma rednecks who come to the state, drive everywhere on ATV's and call it hunting as they shoot an elk for 1/2 mile away. Yeah, that's hunting

Re: rifle season
I just got back from Elk hunting. Didn't get an elk but I shot a little mule deer. Damn good meat, he had been feeding on a grain field in the valley below.

.
How about just going to a steakhouse and ordering a fliet mignon? That seems to be the logical thing to do from where I sit ... AND a lot less mess to clean up afterward.

No, when I hunt (I don't shoot, just their to pack out the meat), we hike, on foot, with bow or muzzle, get within 5-20 yards. Now that's is hunting but I guess fat ass gun toting Texans* can't handle hiking at 10,000 feet to get a 6X6 Bull.
* Note, not all Texans are fat ass gun toters

I am going to have to disagree. I think there is a difference in terminology happening here. Shannon, what you consider an 8 point down there we consider a 4 point here. I noticed this over the years of watching hunting shows. I think fbgorb knows what I am talking about. In the central US, eastern US and southern US they count all the points, everywhere else we count one side.
As far as the hiking goes, it is obvious that you have never hunted in the rocky mountains. You can't just walk into a 60 acre grove of trees, sit there all day, and take your pick of an animal. You have to walk up and down mountains (not Texas hills) to find these animals. Sometimes when you are lucky, you catch them crossing a road and you can save yourself the effort but that is rare.

Re: rifle season
I would shoot bambi in a heartbeat to feed smy kid.
I shoot targets. (quite good at it too!)
No judgement, by paw's house in land 'O cheese, more deer than people east of 43. (10 mile corridore, betwn, express driver path and big pond...)
Happy hunting shannon!

I've never been west of texas. I've also never gotten to do the actual hunting before. This year however, my boyfriend is taking his new gun out to his uncles ranch and we're gonna do some hunting Oh, and yes we count all the points, must be a colorado thing to only count one side bc everyone i've ever talked to from anywhere counts all the points... well i've talked to people from illinois, indiana, kentucky, tennessee and arkansas... but we have to count all the horns in texas bc they only get to about 16 points... or 8 points in colorado:-P
