I had this in another forum, but it got no traffic, so I'll put it here.


Let me start this off by saying that Saddam Hussein is in no way a good guy, or a good leader. I don't expect criticism saying that I'm pro-Hussein or anything like that. I am simply stating facts that I have been gathering over the course of a couple weeks, from different sources.

Did Hussein use chemical weapons on his own people?
No. Saddam Hussein was at war with Iran from 1980, to 1988. In 1988, he used these chemical weapons against Kurds and Iranians, ultimately ending the war. The Kurds were in Iraq, therefore, it has been said that Hussein used these weapons on his own people. The Kurds were in alliance with Iran, and attacking Iraqi citizens. Now, this gives Hussein NO right to use these weapons. Mind you, the US is responsible for giving Iraq the viral, bacerial, fungal, and chemical samples.

Did Iraq have WMDs?
Simple answer, no. The UN put sanctions on Iraq in 1992 forbidding them the manufacture or purchase of anything construde as a WMD. Iraq was giving the UN some trouble for some time about their investigations... how would you like your neighbor coming over and looking through your stuff, whether you had something illegal or not? They weren't working with the UN, but, they did finally allow the UN in, just before the attacks from the US. Since then, it has been proven that they did not have these weapons, but were planning on production of them when the sanctions were lifted.

Was Iraq in any way responsible for 9/11?
Nope. Osama bin Laden was a sworn enemy of Saddam Hussein. Hussein was a secular leader, therefore, bin Laden, quite simply, didn't do business with Hussein.

Was Iraq allowed to produce or purchase weapons?
Yes, as long as they weren't considered weapons of mass-destruction by the UN.


As I said, Saddam Hussein was a terrible dictator, and should not have been put into leadership of Iraq in the first place. However, it was our duty to take him out of office when he was actually doing these horrific acts, rather than using them as a front for what remains as our own interests right now. Iraq was noth a threat to the US. If we wanted to go into Iraq under proper circumstances, it should have been while we were, in fact, supplying Iraq with these WMDs we are so outraged about right now. So, as we all know, while Rumsfeld is up on his pedestal telling us how much of a threat Saddam Hussein is to us.... remember that he was a part of the administration that helped Hussein do the terrible things that he did.

After some more research, it's come up that the UN sanctions were to be lifted in 1998, if Hussein did abide by them in the meantime. He felt that he did, and they still didn't lift the sanctions. The UN was also controlling Iraq's oil, and pretty much taking the seat from Hussein. Cooperation would have been limited in any country under the circumstances. I'm not saying the UN was wrong, they were doing their job. I think we should have let them finish their job before going all Rambo on Iraq.
