Im just wondering what girls actually seen in pick up lines. I guess they serve the purpose of breaking the ice but beyond that I dont see any point to them. I kind of think most pickup lines would me look stupid or like a complete meathead. Do girls really go for them

It's not that the lines are sooo suave, but if a guy comes over with a dorky/cute/funny line and it makes me chuckle that might get me talking but if he's all serious about it and all creepy about it then i'd laugh....but not in a good way.

I think a cute dorky line can be a nice ice breaker, but as Schutz said, when lines work that well i highly doubt you're the first one to suceed.

Wow! I've used a ton of lines in my life. And created some killers for friends. If you're in the "meat market" where that's expected, fine.

Truly, I've found, outside the meat markets--which always have sucked--I've met some incredible people by just walking up and saying, "Hi, I'm "Lefty" and I thought maybe I could introduce myself and talk with you. If you'll share your name with me, I'll buy the first round."

This no BS approach, which is sincere on my part, has never been met negatively. If you're a snake, then nothing will work. And it's not that you're trying to bed the person (necessarily :happycow: ). But sometimes, particularly if you're travelling on business, it's simply nice to meet someone who appears to be interesting. Maybe you'll even come away with a friendship. Or more.

I'm very friendly day-to-day and will talk to just about anyone...however when it comes down to talking to someone that i like i'm kinda dorky sometimes.

What i'm trying to say is, i hate not being able to talk to a guy without it being like i'm trying to flirt or i'm "sweating" him....Sometimes conversation is conversation. That being said, sometimes a dorky line is nice for a laugh and a quick chat but if it's done in a meat market way then nah, it's not going to work. Maybe i'm not a good judge because i don't frequent a lot of clubs or places where lines would be used. So, um, yea....

See, Amor's got the right idea. I'm all for someone being funny or cute or silly and catching my attention. I love to get to know people better. It's the premeditated-don't-really-see-you-as-much-more-than-a-potential-piece-of-ass lines that flip my "mock you mercilessly" switch.

workin in a bar, i get em, and also see em used, all the time....if you want to use a line that works, its gotta be somethin to catch a girl off gaurd. its important that it makes her laugh, but make sure its something original....the best way to take down a girls defenses is through laughter....for most girls, no matter what a guy looks like, he goes up a few notches if he makes you laugh

i know its hard for some guys that dont think they look great, but in the end, personality wins over looks 99% of the time....its all about how you get the girl to know who you are...and a great, funny line helps

You just gotta make sure lines don't sound like lines. Also, NEVER admit to something being a line and NEVER, EVER EVER EVER use the same line twice.

So the thing that appears to work best with a girl is to make her laugh? I knew humor was important but not to this extent. I just gotta make sure i dont say something stupid when i try to make her laugh. Its a big advantage being able to know that a little bit humor is good enough to get your foot in the door, or in some cases the hand in the pants. Thank you ladies for sharing your opinion.

Try crackin a blonde joke ( if they're blonde) or something that will either upset her or make her laugh. One that i used that really worked was when i was walkin by a really hot chick i pointed to her crotch and said "hey your fly is down" and walked off. didnt even stop to hear her responce. later that night she came up to me and we starded a chattin so give that one a shot.
