Okay, I'm sure you've heard KRS One's comments on the 9/11 attacks! If not here's a excerpt:

"the hip-hop anarchist has declared his solidarity with Al Qaeda by asserting that he and other African-Americans 'cheered when 9-11 happened,' " and said that KRS's words "defiled the memory of those who died in the terrorist attacks."

He recanted his statement later but to even say that in any context is down right inexcusable and irresponsible. It angers me in every way no matter what context he later said he meant.

I don't know, maybe he's just trying to get some press since he's a has-been now. But that's not the way to do it.

Please express your comments on his statement. Does that anger you as much as me or am I on this island alone?

First off, I would like to say that KRS-ONE is an incredible individual and an invaluable asset to the hip-hop community. One which I have had the priveledge to meet and speak with myself.

Second, this was originally reported by a gossip column. Not exactly the first thing people think of when facts are concerned.

He never "declared his solidarity" with Al Qaeda, nor did he say that he and african americans "cheered when 9/11 happened". What the column did was distort (literally) what KRS said. Most of what was in that article weren't even complete quotes. Just quotes that were chopped up and edited for maximum shock value and with the author's sensationalist interpretations thrown in.

What his (original) statements were trying to say was that 9/11 offered a glimmer of hope. A hope that America would heed this as a wake up call and take a critical look at itself and it's place in the world.

This is a perfect example of a conversation a friend and I were having earlier about the importance of knowing the whole story and not just accepting every bit of news that is spoon fed to us by the media.

Next time you pick up a paper or visit a news web site and see a topic or article that outrages you, check the facts. Many times you will find that there's nothing to be outraged about. And if there is, then all you've lost is a couple minutes making sure.

i agree that alot of times quotes are chopped up to make them sound worse than they are. i think hes a very strong worded person expressing his opinion to influence others....however, i think the only defense i have for anti-american views is that we do live in a free country and therefor can express our opinions as we wish...if you dont like the country, please live somewhere else

Indigenous....doesnt that sum up politics in our country in general. most people are so one-sided that when they hear somethin about the candidate they dont like, they immediately believe its true and jump on him for it. i think most people dont know any real facts about either candidate, just the garbage they hear in the news

Very true. I try to view things, especially politics, with a critical eye. For example, while I may dislike Bush, I try to double check any anti-Bush "facts" I come across. It's amazing how many things you come across that are either entirely false or half truths bent to make a cetian side look good/bad. What's even worse is that these things are often reported as cold, hard facts by the media without question.

1. MTV is not exactly the best place to get political news..It's a start but it should not be heavily relied upon.

2. I saw another article on his statements and when compared to this one, the MTV news bit was even more chopped up with several different opinions placed upon it (MTVs and the reporter they were quoting).

3. I have no problem with his views as it's a free country and he can speak as he wishes. I also accept his argument and amendment of what he truly meant the first time around.

Like Indigenous said wait for the facts before you make assumptions. And hate to say it but there was one good thing that came out of 9-11. The fact that for a moment we did come together as a country. Sad it took a tragedy for that to happen and sad that it has seemed to fade so fast.
