Cards down Astros--I have no voice!
Hey Houston boys! All you Astros fans! Kick it up! Lemme hear you.
My Cards are comin' on! I just got in from the game and my voice is so raspy, I sound like I should have a 1-900 number (maybe some extra income in that idea!)
Lemme hear you. Beltran and Bagwell looked mean as Hell tonight! But you've got no pen.
Air it out. I'll match my guys against anybody this year.

Re: Cards down Astros--I have no voice!
Yeah, our middle relief pretty much blows. Our only real chance is back to back 7 or 8 inning gems by Clemens and Oswalt... in games 3, 4... and 6, 7. Then bring in Lidge to close things out. I think backe might be able to steal one at home in minute maid... i think he is fueled by the crowd there.
Of course this is all speculation. I am just glad we made it this far. But our middle relief is very suspect. *sighs* we did sweep a three game series against st louis in the last week of the season at home. i dont see why we cant do it again. thats why its the playoffs... crazy shit happens!

Re: Cards down Astros--I have no voice!
You swept a three game set with Hector Luna, John Mabry and Marlon Anderson or Roger Cedeno in the lineup. Not to mention a game pitched only by relievers.
Garner is in a pinch. If he pitches Rocket and Oswalt twice, that means round two will be on three days rest . . . which those guys have proven they can't do.
All I really want is an incredible series, filled with memorable moments. But bring on the ring. I've waited 22 years since the last one! And yes, that makes me greedy. It's time for World Championship number 10.
And my voice is still raspy this morning!

Re: Cards down Astros--I have no voice!
well i just witnessed the Astros bullpen self destruct once again... ugh....
oh and if kent's ankle wasnt messed up, we woulda turned that double play and the cards would have never scored those 4 runs in the 5th or whatever.... but blah, you cant think like that.
fooey. well. down 2 - 0. perhaps a miracle can happen? if the astros can get the next two, who knows what can happen. cardinals just have too many offensive weapons for our weak bullpen.

Re: Cards down Astros--I have no voice!
I sat in the rain and the cold (47 degrees!) and have even less of a voice today. Incredible game. Anything can happen, but I really just feel like it's our year here in the STL.
You can't play the Kent card. That one allows me to say we would have won it all in 2002, had Alex Arias of AZ not crashed into Rolen.
Enjoy the series in Houston (but try not to win more than one, okay?)

Re: Cards down Astros--I have no voice!
hee hee hee.... how about we win all three?
theory on backe seemed to be correct.... hehe the bats were DEAD tonight. These two bad ass offenses... both shut down and limited to two hits combined in the first 8 innings.
Backe pitched an absolute beauty as did Woody Williams (i think thats him... dont feel like looking it up)... and both defenses were bad freaking ass tonight! When the cards walked Berkman in the bottom of the ninth... a slight grumble echoed through the bar when kent came up. lol he hasnt exactly been clutch in situations like this... with two or three double plays this post season.....
but a few of us were convinced that he was due.... and was he ever.... :wiggle: astros up 3 - 2 headed back to st louis... ahhhhhhh..... the bar went ABSOLUTELY NUTS.... it was so fucking loud i can only imagine what minute maid sounded like with the roof closed...
now... this is what i think should happen.... pitch munro on wednesday... the game is not a must win.... if we win, then we win. If we lose, then we have clemens to start on normal rest on thursday... with oswalt on three days to back him up in middle relief if needed, along with a well rested lidge. Pitching doesnt look too shabby for a game seven in that scenario... hehe.
uggggggggh this is stressful! BUT WE ARE FREAKING LOVING IT IN HOUSTON! hehe swept a late season series against backups.... and swept a three game playoff homestand against all the good players... dang... wooooooo hoooooooooo!
of course if st louis sweeps all the games in the STL...we go home
WIN ONE IN THE STL 'STROS! WOO HOO!
Regardless... this has been a GREAT series.... very, very good for the game! Woot!

Re: Cards down Astros--I have no voice!
Izzy throws the slider low and away, Kent hits into a double-play and we're out of the inning.
Instead, Izzy hangs the slider, Kent hits it into the next county and the game's over.
Incredible contest. Woody Williams pitched the game with a pulled calf muscle. He gutted out everything he had. Truly, our guys looked intimidated.
We'll see what happens here. Reminds me of the '87 World Series. The Twins won two at home, we won our three here, and lost the final two in the Twinkie Dome. I can only hope for a similar scenario.
I'm with you. I save Rocket for Game 7. Going back to his Sox days, he's never been good on three days rest. It's gonna be fun. I've got tix and I'll be there.
GO CARDS!

Re: Cards down Astros--I have no voice!
i keep seeing the replay of kent coming home from third base... and the look on his face is freaking priceless.... then he flips off his helmet and looks like a chimpmunk.... hahaha the whole thing is just fucking awesome for him. and the astros.
one of the best feelings in baseball has to be hitting a walk off homer in a playoff game... with your entire dugout waiting for you at home plate... ugh.... must be awesome. woot!

Re: Cards down Astros--I have no voice!
I did a walk-off homer in a beer league softball game once and it was awesome. So it wasn't quite MLB. There's still no bigger buzz than hitting the winner and havin' all your boys waiting to jump on you at the plate.
I did a buzzer-beater in a hoops game once, too. Pure joy.
No more wins Houston. I've got Series tickets, damn it!

Re: Cards down Astros--I have no voice!
The Cards will prevail. History is on our side. The Redbirds have never lost in post season when trailing 3 games to 2.
1926 World Series-Yankees
1934 World Series-Tigers
1946 World Series-Red Sox
1982 World Series-Brewers
1987 NLCS-Giants
I'll trust that track record.
