the fact that he has 500+ stolen bases, makes it a clear cut winner

Re: Congrats Barry!! Is Bonds the Best Ever??
Bonds isn't even in the ballpark. I won't even get into the fact that the guy is 'roided to the max--his head grew by over a full size after the age of 35.
Babe Ruth is the greatest player of all time. Everyone always talks of the 714 homeruns. Ruth was also a .342 hitter with a single season high of over .390!
But here's what separates Ruth from all others. Had he not been such an incredible hitter, Ruth might have become the greatest pitcher of all time. He was dominant as a starter and routinely out-dueled Walter Johnson. Ruth held the record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched until Don Drysdale broke that record in the 60's.
To puth things in perspective, Ruth going from one of the game's dominant pitchers to its greatest hitter would be like Dick Butkus switching from Middle Linebacker (the best ever) and becoming a quarterback, surpassing John Unitas.
The fact that The Bambino was out drinking and whoring about most nights makes his numbers even more amazing.
Bonds is good. You could even say great. But when the 'roid truth comes out, how do you address his numbers. They're obviously chemically induced.

There are a few players that could be argued here, and I can't decide for myself. However, if he had stayed healthy for the past few seasons, I think Ken Griffey Jr. would be well on his way to being the best player ever. Beautiful swing, didn't need roids to hit homeruns at a tremendous pace, and collected Gold Gloves on an annual basis. Too bad he got slowed down. Would've reached 800 easy...

Re: Congrats Barry!! Is Bonds the Best Ever??
if griffey could of only gotten some sort of force field covering his legs/ankles then he would have been pushing for "greatest ever." However those damn outfield walls are unforgiving and he is just a broken down has been now.
As far as Bonds as one of the greatest ever... He certainly puts up the numbers, i won't deny that. I also don't doubt that he is on the roids, it will be interesting to see what all of his records will do after that. Asterisks anyone? I also think he is the biggest bastard in baseball, and deserves every conflict that crosses his path.

TOTAL BASTARD! When Bonds was just starting to gain attention while playing alongside Bonilla and Van Slyke for the Pirates, I watched a kid (maybe 6 or 8 years old) ask Barry for an autograph during pre-game, behind the visitors dugout at Busch Stadium. Bonds looks up and coldly blurts out "No". Another kid asks. Again "No", only more agitated. Finally, after three or four requests, Bonds looks up and says "Look, they get $15 for my autograph (told you it was a few years ago) at the card shows . . . give me 15 bucks and I'll sign whatever you've got!"
Asshole! I only hope that someday Randy Johnson lets a heater slip and fractures the side of Bonds' fat steroid filled melon head.
By the way, Andy Van Slyke--who does radio in the STL now--swears that Bonds has to be juiced. According to "Slick", "The guy's whole body shape changed. I don't care how much you work out, when you're 36, 38, your body can't change that radically in just one year without some substance that's not normally found in your body. In my opinion, Barry is on steroids."
Barry sucks. May his name be stricken from the books when it's finally disclosed that he used roids.

I'd go over the stats again but it would just be redundant. The fact of the matter is that Bonds = Roided out bitch.

Exactly! Bonds is so roided up I expect him to run at Belmont next year and serve as the Triple Crown spoiler.

Re: Congrats Barry!! Is Bonds the Best Ever??
Put Ruth up against today's pitchers and we'll see how well he does. The talent of today far surpasses the talent of Ruth's time.
