why your images dont work and options
I need some options i have all the pics i just had to turn it off to see if thats where all the bandwidth is going
I can have the server capped which would make it crawl
i can pay for the bandwidth which would cost ALOT
i could get another server that would be capped and the images would load slow
or whatever you guys know of

Re: why your images dont work and options
Like I suggested in the mod forum...
Just have an auto archive set at 30 days.. to remove all the images to an offline folder. I don't suggest using other uploading sites only because of the red tape involved and legal disclaimers.

Re: why your images dont work and options
ummmm as you seem to be having bandwidth problems... here is my recommendation.. just sorta thought of it. EDDIE AND JUSTIN.... SEE THE BOTTOM FOR THE CLIFF NOTES VERSION OF THE BELOW POST!
You have an attatchment option.... that thumbnails the pics and puts them in the threads. mfinley has stated many times that the thumbnail threads dont get as many hits, but if this was the only option, you would save TONS of bandwidth. If this was feasible, and could be implemented, you could save a lot of bandwidth for the main following reason.
A person on a fast connection will sometimes click 3 or 4 different threads, wait till all the pics load up, then might see the first few and be like.. ugh this sucks... and close the window... you are using... for instances 12 meg of bandwidth... for 300k of pictures being viewed (for some of the 150+ pic threads) and that is PER THREAD OPENED x Number of Lurkers = A SHIT LOAD OF BANDWIDTH! (equation 1)
If everything was thumbnailed to a size that a person could see what it was.... they can use a little more judgement on whether or not it is worth it to them to see the rest of the thread. You can save a SHIT LOAD of bandwidth right there. I like the thumbnail posts more myself because im on dialup, and the thumbs will load quicker.. and i can look at a couple and decide if i have any interest in the set. if i do, i will load all the images by clicking the nails, and save away.
Thumbnails are less popular yes.... but so is reaching deeper into your pocket to pay for all this shit. Some of these threads are HUGE, and are being completely loaded, and in probably a lot of cases, are just being cast out because it isnt the viewer's thing.
CLIFF NOTES FOR EDDIE AND JUSTIN
Adapt the uploader to automatically generate thumbnails that are then placed into threads, linking to the full image. These thumbnails will save you the bandwidth wasted when people load threads, look at the first couple pics, then move on. Might be slower for the person to save everything, but will save you bandwidth. Then end.

Re: why your images dont work and options
A little math to support the above solution:
The chocolate dildo thread, posted by mfinley i believe was one thread that i completely downloaded. 129 pics, totalling 36.1 megabytes. Averaging out to around 280k per pic. Lets say there are 50 people who view the thread (result rounded a bit):
50 people x (129 pics x 280k) = 1.8 gigabytes
If you had all of those pics thumbnailed, the total bandwidth of the thread after 1800 people would be the following (achieved by taking a pic from the thread that was 281k, and downsizing it to 100x153 which is a good preview size, and around 7.5k):
1800 people x (129 thumbs x 7.5k) = 1.8 gigabytes
Basically, 1800 people could view a thumbnailed thread in the same amount of bandwidth that 50 people use under the current system.
This doesnt take into consideration those who would take the time to click the thumbnails and load up the fullsize pics, but still its a substantial savings in bandwidth, considering all that bandwidth is used by just OPENING the thread.
CLIFF NOTES FOR EDDIE AND JUSTIN:
The consequences of loading a thread now, compared to what could be.
50 people x (129 pics x 280k) = 1.8 gigabytes
1800 people x (129 thumbs x 7.5k) = 1.8 gigabytes
nuff said.

Re: why your images dont work and options
Even more data for my theory. I must be really bored... ok ok i just care about webrats.
I went through the above mentioned chocolate dildo directory, along with a few other complete sets that i have downloaded, and realized that a LOT of the pictures are similar. i.e. ass shot... pussy shot... on tha knees from tha back shot...
So i went through a thumbnail directory, and selected the one that i would have saved as part of my own personal chocolate dildo set, so that instead of seeing similar pictures over and over, i get nice variety, and the gist of the set.
Of course this is just how i do sets, but anyway. To the data!
Out of the 129 pictures, i flagged 48 of which i would have loaded and saved individually. These 48 pictures added up to 12.5 megabytes. To the numbers!
from the previous list of equations:
Fifty people open the thread as is:
50 people x (129 pics x 280k) = 1.8 gigabytes
Fifty people open the thread with thumbnails:
50 people x (129 thumbs x 7.5k) = 48.4 megabytes
Then they proceed to download 48 pictures out of the set each.
(50 people x 12.5 meg) + 48.4 meg = 673 megabytes
The above equations assume that EVERY PERSON who loads the thread will download around 1/3 of the set. Some will download the whole thing, some will download nothing, and all sorts of numbers in between. This is just if 50 of me went to the site, and downloaded the pics from the set that i found interesting.
ONCE AGAIN: FOR EDDIE AND JUSTIN!
50 people x (129 pics x 280k) = 1.8 gigabytes
BUT if 50 people click on 12.5 meg of thumbnails, plus the 48.4 meg required to load all the thumbnails for those 50 people, your total bandwidth is still only the following:
(50 people x 12.5 meg) + 48.4 meg = 673 megabytes
1.8 gig vs. 673 meg
And thats only for 50 people. Rawr.

Re: why your images dont work and options
Alternatively people could post a couple sample pics from a set and an archive file (zip, whatever) of the rest of the pics so then only people interested in the set would bother to dl the archive.

unfortunately, downloading the entire archive would only take 20 - 30 seconds for someone on even a weak broadband connection... so most lurkers would just hit the link, and browse through the archive no matter what.
The instant access to all the full size pics right away needs to be limited in some way.

Re: why your images dont work and options
in addition to the thumbnail idea above, it's possible to have thumbnails of video as well. you can have a thumbnail of the video, as well as compressing it to save some bandwidth and wasted downloads.

Re: why your images dont work and options
My suggestions:
1. Delete photos in threads that have been inactive for XX days. This would save bandwidth as well as solving the annoyance of n00bs resurrecting threads that have been dead for 6 months.
2. Thumbnails. This would not not only save bandwidth, but it would probably make it a lot easier on those 56k'ers out there. Even I get lagged up on some of the threads that have a ton of big pics. I have cable so it's not so much my connection speed crapping out as it is my cache getting stuffed and bringing my comp to a crawl until I empty it.
I apologize for repeating anything someone else may have already pointed out or spelling errors. I'm dead tired and still in the midst of a post-coital haze. :wiggle:
