Dog Wiggles Paw Free to Shoot Florida Man




PENSACOLA, Fla. - A man who tried to shoot seven puppies was shot himself when one of the dogs put its paw on the revolver's trigger.



Jerry Allen Bradford, 37, was charged with felony animal cruelty, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday. He was being treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound to his wrist.


Bradford said he decided to shoot the 3-month-old shepherd-mix dogs in the head because he couldn't find them a home, according to the sheriff's office.


On Monday, Bradford was holding two puppies — one in his arms and another in his left hand — when the dog in his hand wiggled and put its paw on the trigger of the .38-caliber revolver. The gun then discharged, the sheriff's report said.


Deputies found three of the puppies in a shallow grave outside Bradford's home, said sheriff's Sgt. Ted Roy.


The other four appeared to be in good health and were taken by Escambia County Animal Control, which planned to make them available for adoption.

I read this today at work...I can't believe some people...it was his responsiblity to have this animal fixed...therefore having no puppies...therefore having no puppies to find homes for...the dogs were precious...no need to shoot any animal that can't defend himself...(well...in this case perhaps they can)...basically...it's a sad world all the way around...if the man can shoot a dog in the head...what more could/would he do? Jackass...

I don't see how that dog could put enough pressure on the trigger of a .38 to fire it...but I'm glad he did. Another heartless bastard receives what he deserves... :rock:

Well, I had a Taurus .38 that wasn't exactly hard to trigger. Also, when a puppy is being bound, and trying to free itself, it has enough muscle to push off a trigger anyway. When puppies are old enough to give away, which these seem to have been, they are 6-8 weeks old, and easily walking. They would have had enough muscle to pull off a blast. Good thing.

Typical of a Southern/Farm mentality. Sad that it exists, but different morals for different people is a pathetic fact I had to learn while working in Texas at a Vet Hospital. It doesn't click in everyone's brain to take the puppies to an animal shelter, sadly enough.
