It looks like it's time for Steve Bartman

It looks like it's time for Steve Bartman, the fan that caused the Cubs the World Series, to find a new state to live in. Most of my life i lived near Chicago, and have always been a Cub fan. I know exactly what it's like. This guy will be screwed for life, especially if he stays there. Considering he is 26 and still lives with mom and dad i'm surprised that he hasn't killed himself yet. The fans have every right to react the way they are to this guy. Don't believe the bullshit about baseball just being a game, it's not. If it was... players wouldn't be getting paid millions, it wouldn't cost an arm and a leg to experience a game, coaches wouldn't be fired for not getting the team to the World Series, they wouldn't trade away fan favorites, players wouldn't fight, there wouldn't be unions, etc. It's all about money and winning, that's a business. I hope this guy gets his ass kicked for being so stupid.

I'm sure the fool is already hiding in Canada... if not... then he deserves what he gets!

We're talking about Cubs fans... they had to quit selling beer at wrigley field for a short period of time in the mid '90s because too many fights were breaking out... Bartman's as good as dead

All he did was take a foul ball away from the outfielder. So instead of 1 out it was 1 strike.

He didnt fuck the cubs out of the game. The marlins did.

One out is a hell of a lot more important than one strike!! first off... You can't score on a 3rd out in baseball so the Marlins never would've had that 8 run rally and game 7 never would've happened... He truely ruined the entire game

Gotta disagree with you here, man. As I've stated before, I'm not a Cubs fan ( although I did want to see them win it all after the Dodgers managed to fuck things up again ... ) so I'm not making any kind of excuses ... but ... I know enough about baseball to realize that something like that takes the momentum away from a team. That would have been the second out of the inning and would've meant that only one out was needed instead of two -- negating the need for the double play that was botched on the next play of the game.

NOW ... I'm not saying that the guy deserves the abuse/attention that he's getting, HOWEVER ... I firmly believe that reason the Cubs aren't in the World Series is because of that play.

Exactly. I can't believe we agree on something. Someone call the press.

No way gang! The Bartman guy was not at field level. Watch the replays. He couldn't see Alou from where he was--I've been in those exact seats at Wrigley. He was watching the ball, along with everyone else around him. In those seats, you don't think about a guy coming over the wall into foul ground. You think about catching the foul, so you don't get plunked and end up in the emergency room.

Does the guy deserve to be a footnote in history? Sure. Did it help shift momentum? Sure. But no way in Hell can you blame the guy for Gonzo's error at short. This guy's getting paid millions. MILLIONS damn it. And he boots a routine grounder. And nobody says a damned thing.

When the guy (Gonzo) came up with the Mets, he was touted as "The Next Ozzie Smith". And he boots a squibby that was an easy two. Ozzie he ain't!

It's easier to scapegoat the fan that admit your guy blew it.

Hell, here in St. Louis we still blame Don Dekinger, the blind umpire, for blowing a call that allowed Jorge Orta to reach first in a hit that changed the game and "cost us the '85 World Series". Do we remember Jack Clark letting a foul pop drop? NO! Because we don't want to blame our guy.

So lay off the dork. Let him hide in his parents basement.

Simple fact: If the Cubs can't win at least one of two games at home with Prior and Wood on the hill, they deserve to lose.

Let's just hope no one pulls a Donnie Moore! You remember the guy . . . former Cub. Like the Cubs, his '86 Angels are up on the Red Sox three games to one. He gives up the blast to Dave Henderson that leads the BoSox to victory. Donnie can't handle it and blows his brains out.

The Cubs are loaded. I don't look forward to seeing them invade Busch next year. With their lumber and a couple of good new arms in the pen, the curse of the billy goat just might go away.

For now, let Bartman be. Although, knowing and loving the City of Chicago, I suspect the guy will need to go into the Witness Protection Program and be re-located to some Hell hole like Jackson, Tennessee!

My take.

If this is the case, then wouldn't you be thinking about GETTING OUT OF THE WAY OF THE BALL vs. catching it ... re: trip to the emergency room? If you're gonna use that logic, then you gotta stick to your story.

My take: he "boots" it because he was trying to make a double play that they NEEDED to get out of the inning. If it were only a "one out needed" situation, then the pressure is off and they get one out.

You must've missed the DOZEN OR SO TIMES that I've said that I'm not a Cubs fan. He's not "my guy". I'm only stating what I know from the many years of baseball that I've watched & played. The Cubs got their rhythm screwed up and that's why they lost the game ... not because of a botched double play.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. Heh.

Now that cracks me up! A guy in the stands, in the wrong place at the wrong time becomes even more infamous, while being the butt of prime time TV. Only in America................

Can't wait to see who they'll try to get for cameo parts. I wonder if the main character will have a pet goat?
