Fox News - Fair and Balanced?
People say that Fox News is a Republican outlet. The news station is the most popular cable news outlet and is even starting to rival the networks as well. Do you think the Fox is fair and balanced or do you think that they play favorably to the right?
Also, what do you think of Fox News personalities Sean Hannity, Alan Colmes, Bill O'Reilly, etc.?
This article by O'Reilly pretty much sums up what I think:

Re: Fox News - Fair and Balanced?
Fox News is "fair and balanced" but only on the premise "A lie told enough times becomes the truth"
I'm a non-secular middleline Republican and I watch Fox News. I like it because of it conservative slant and just ignore the Bull Shit. I won't watch Hannity. That guy is a Butt Plug with a mouth piece and Colmes is nothing but his liberal punching bag. It's really a lousy show...

Re: Fox News - Fair and Balanced?
The Fox News Network explained that they were a Republican organization at their startup. They didn't show ANYTHING about the Democratic National Convention. They showed the Republican Nation Convention non-stop. They are fair and balanced, as long as the topic is a Republican topic.

What do you mean? I can't find any evidence about Fox producing the RNC. Is that even possible?
Where did you get this info?

Here is a chart from Media Matters for America who set out to prove that Fox News would spend more time covering the Republican convention than the Democratic convention.
Besides the first night when McCain and Guiliani went over their time (should Fox just have cut them off even though that was a HUGE ratings night?) it looks to be about even to me.
Although I think they may lean a little to the right, I honestly believe that they are better than people give them credit for. It just seems worse because every other media outlet is so liberal. Hannity is too conservative for me... he makes us look ridiculous. I think O'Reilly tells it like it is.

Re: Fox News - Fair and Balanced?
Let's also not forget the absolutely PATHETIC amount of coverage offered by the liberal news outlets on the RNC. Compare that to Fox's coverage of the DNC. Even if Fox is somewhat biased to the Right (which I agree it may have some tendencies), Fox is at the very least FAIR in its reporting and gives at least SOME balance to what is almost completely liberal elsewhere.

They are ONLY fair and balanced if you are a Right Wing Republican.

Re: Fox News - Fair and Balanced?
I use to only watch Fox News until I began watching MSNBC and CNN more often and realized I was missing a whole other perspective. Fox News does lean to the right, some shows more than others. I think for the most part the Hannity and COlmes show is pretty damn fair and balanced...and Dayside with Linda Vester is pretty fair as well. O'Reilly leans to the right in regards to how hard he is on someone, but he does do his research. The argument that this leaning to the right is balanced by other liberal networks is not a sufficient argument. Do two wrongs make a right? I'd personally like to see O'Reilly and Chris Matthews go at it...one leans to the left and the other to the right...make a great show.

Re: Fox News - Fair and Balanced?
Also, I flip to Fox from time-to-time to see what nonsense they are saying. They spent a LOT more time on the GOP than that.

Re: Fox News - Fair and Balanced?
I looked for the DNC EVERY night. I didn't see NEARLY as much publicicty of the DNC. They spent all hours on the RNC. I flip from one news station to the other, and as I said, there was almost NOTHING on the RNC.

Re: Fox News - Fair and Balanced?
No, Fox News is not "fair and balanced" IMO. I think it's fairly obvious to everybody where there positions is ... which is ok as long as everybody keeps this in mind.
As far as the personalities, I think they fit perfectly with the channel. They suck.

Re: Fox News - Fair and Balanced?
I will not argue that Fox News is not biased because NO media outlet, not even Cartoon freakin' Network is not politically biased. Fox offers an alternative to other television news stations, and in comparison gives a much more balanced view.
And Esco, I don't like Larry King goddamnit. He's a schmuck. For whatever that's worth.

Re: Fox News - Fair and Balanced?
There's a good point in there somewhere, I know it! I have been having this same debate with someone via e-mail correspondance, and in the last reply I made, ALL news stations are obviously biased. Fox is just moreso than most. I can't see how even a Republican doesn't see that the Fox corporation is obviously Repulican based. With all of this said, in my posts, I have obviously been biased against Republicans which is wrong of me. I am still anti-Bush, but I have also been opening myself up to a lot more information lately. I don't like Kerry. I don't like Bush. I dislike Kerry less than I dislike Bush. I understand that I have been a little "fanatical" in my idealism, but, again, I have been biased, and I still am. For those who read my posts and don't like what I have to say, get over it. I still have a lot to say outside of politics, even if I do get a little spirited sometimes. Besides that, I'm a bit saucy right now, so I'm rambling.
