Which type athlete is most physically fit?
What athletes are the most "in-shape" or overall fit?
Or does it even matter? (Little petite girls with huge muscles are good gymnasts, long, lanky basketball players...)
My opinion is that boxers have to be in good physical condition. Strength, stamina, etc...
what do you all think?

Re: Which type athlete is most physically fit?
This is such a subjective question unfortunately. Yes, boxers (for the most part) are very fit. But then you have other athletes, long distance runners/cyclists/swimmers who have even better endurance. Then you have ones such as hockey players who need all parts such as strength/speed/stamina/etc for their sport (compared to baseball *see David Wells or Mo Vaughn*). Overall, the athletes that use the most muscles at one time are rowers. There's a reason why you have rowing machines in gyms and not a skating machine or basketball dribbler. Cross country skiers are also in very good condition.
I am quite partial on this matter, i posted a thread about ESPN's rankings of sports difficulties earlier, but I would go with hockey players. You can get heavyweight boxers who can just hit hard and aren't in great shape (although these aren't the good ones) but you will rarely find a pro hockey player who isn't in great shape.

Gotta back Sub on this one. hockey players do everything other athletes do ... on skates.
Nuff said.

Re: Which type athlete is most physically fit?
You almost need to narrow the question. Are we talking mainstream, major pro sports or any sport? If it's any sport, the answer is easy:
WATER POLO
If you've ever watched water polo, you'd agree it's the most physically demanding sport ever. Tread water, swim sprints and lots of kicking and jockeying for position beneath the water's surface. I had friends that played and they were in the best shape of anyone I've ever known.
Truly this is the one sport that taxes ever major muscle group to the extreme.

I vote for soccer players! They run up and down the long ass field all day long! I know it killed me but was great for me physically when I played.

Re: Which type athlete is most physically fit?
No offense to anyone who plays or has played the sport, but I hate soccer! It's okay if you play (I was a goalie as a kid), but it is the world's worst sport to watch.
Round balls belong in hoops 10ft off the ground!

Also, rubgy players take - and dish out - an extreme amount of punishment.

Re: Which type athlete is most physically fit?
bah! i knew this would be difficult. i thought about wrestling, hockey, i considered the out of shape fatass boxers, and i didnt think about water polo at all. i guess it just goes to show that they're all alot more deserving than my sit on the couch and watch tv and eat candy self.

Re: Which type athlete is most physically fit?
Hmm...i'd go with the water polo players.....or perhaps even synchronized swimmers...i've seen their training and how they have to sustain themselves...they are basically spending a great deal of time treading water and cannot touch the bottom of the pool and then have to switch between positions and hold themselves out of water upside down.
I dunno, like Subucni said it depends what part you are looking for...you have your Lance Armstrongs and then you have your Michael Phelps' vs your Mike Tysons....who's to say who is the fittest...Although i'm sure Nike could figure it out.

I think Rugby players are some pretty tough guys, i mean you can easily break any bone in your body and you are running quite a bit.

Re: Which type athlete is most physically fit?
I'd say rugby players or lacrosse players. These are people that run almost non stop and spend the other amount of time, laying hits/throwing/kicking, etc.

Re: Which type athlete is most physically fit?
Im suprised that no one has mentioned Olympic and Iron-man Distance triathaletes. For Iron-man Distance its a 1.5 open mile swim with a lot of the pack getting kicked and punched by other swimmers jockeying for position. Then switch to cycling for 112 miles, finished off by a marathon.

Re: Which type athlete is most physically fit?
^^^^
Forgot about that too, but only because NBC quit showing the one before the NFL Pro Bowl. Used to love that shit, watching people get out of the ocean soaking wet and jump on a bike, just knowing that the chafing will keep them from walking nomarlly for a week ....
