Connecting a Wireless and a Wired Router
Hey, I'm headin back to college and 1 of my roomates has wireless but me and the other roomate have wired. We would like to connect them both somehow so we could use the cable connection we jsut got installed. Do you need anything but the wireless and wired router?

Re: Connecting a Wireless and a Wired Router
Should be just a cable. Decide which one will be first, and plug the cable connection into the WAN port. Then take a regular CAT5 cable to connect the Uplink on the first router, to the second. I'm just not sure if you use the 1st port, or the wan port. I need to get a second router or hub myself, but never have.

Re: Connecting a Wireless and a Wired Router
do you really even need the wired router? All the wireless routers I have seen have a 4 port wired switch built in to the back. The DSL or whatever went into the uplink.... any wired computers plug into the ports on the back... and the wireless people do their thing. Works for my friends house like a charm. Super speedy.

Re: Connecting a Wireless and a Wired Router
As long as you don't have more computer's than ports, and I have seen some routers with no ports, just a wan input and an uplink. Either way, shouldn't be too hard.

Re: Connecting a Wireless and a Wired Router
I agree about not needing a second router. I'm the only one of four roomates using a wired connection, and the three others are wireless. this is probably your best bet if you want to share files and that sort of thing, since having two routers would make it harder to configure a network that encompassed both of them.

Re: Connecting a Wireless and a Wired Router
all you need is a router that supports both wired and wireless. Linksys, D-Link and Netgear all make them and most electronic stores carry them, but you can also show around in Froogle to find the better deal.

Not really, most routers can support other routers connected to them easily enough. The first router get it's WAN IP from the modem (duh) and the second get it's WAN IP address from the first router and so on.
Useful if you want to limit network access to some clients than others.

Re: Connecting a Wireless and a Wired Router
If the wireless security is enabled at the router, then none will connect via wireless.
