Do you bother recycling? How much of a pain is it for you? Do you have curbside pickup or do you have to take it to a center?

We have curbside pickup every two weeks for paper, plastic, and cardboard. Nothing for cans or glass. I do recycle everything that I can, except for paper with personal info on it. I just assumed that everyone does, but I've been amazed lately at how many people just can't be bothered.

Re: Recycling

About the only thing I recycle is aluminum cans and newspapers, and I have to take it to a recycle center. Anything beyond that gets to be a pain. Oh, I take that back. I generally recycle my cardboard boxes as well. Not so much to do, but I guess every little bit helps!

Re: Recycling

We have curbside pick up, so I recycle all of my cans, glass bottles, and some plastics. Our city only takes the plastic that's numbered 1,2,or 3. They also pick up newspapers, so there really is no excuse not to recycle. According to my water bill, I'm paying for them to pick it up, so I might as well do it, right?

Re: Recycling

We do a lot of recycling at work, but not much at home. No curbside pickup coupled with little space to store it until I accumulate enough to take down. If I had a little extra space I'd have a couple of cans just for this. It would be nice if we had curbside in town. The one thing I do store is motor oil. I've always had a problem dumping it, so it goes out to the haz-waste center. same with lead-acid batteries, and paint.

Re: Recycling

Growing up we had curbside pick-up recycling, but then around high school they changed it so they would only pick up newspapers, and anything else you had to pay a monthly fee to have them come pick up. When I moved to college, they had a free service also... but you had to call to have them bring out a special bin to put recylables in. I got my roommates to start recycling now. If I see stuff in the trash that is recyclable, I usually pick it out too. I say probably less than a quarter of the people around here recycle, even though the only thing you have to do is call to get a free bin.

Re: Recycling

We do bottles and small PET plastics ... our council is pathetic for recycling (i can't remember the last time we had a paper pickup) and we don't have a garden worth composting.

Re: Recycling

We recycle out here; the sanitation company gives us different colored trash cans for our recyclables & our "wet" trash.

I kinda think it's all for show, though, because we are to put everything recycleable into the one recycling can - paper, plastic, glass, aluminum, etc. I can't imagine someone really sorts thru that shit rather than just dump it in a land fill...

Re: Recycling

Funny note, not entirely pertaining to the topic but close enough. At my old high school, every class had a recycling bin for paper, and every class asked that you put your paper in there, yet that paper never went to a recycling plant it went straight into the schools dumpster.

Re: Recycling

Once in the habit, recycling is a piece of cake. Anyone who feels otherwise isn't putting out the minor effort and thought required. Yes, I recycle.
