Icon05 Question Video editing program

Anyone know of a good video editing program I can download for free? I don't need anything on the professional level....just something that will allow me to grab some video portions of a home DVD that I was sent. I would like to re-edit it and burn it again without all the stuff that is boring.

THX

Re: Video editing program

Windows Movie Maker might be able to do the trick
You might have to rip the DVD to a file first, I don't think WMM can do it on it's own

Re: Video editing program

Thanks...I'll try that. I have not messed with video editing yet and I wanted to start with something simple.

Re: Video editing program

I use HT Video Editor. I just do some very basic editing, adding titles, wipes and scene splicing.

Although it is $70, it is straight forward and easy to use.

Re: Video editing program

I've used Ulead Video Studio in the past w/ a lot of success. The progam has a ton of options. I believe this is not freewear though but there are so many p2p sites out there it wouldnt be hard to get your hands on one if you really need it

Re: Video editing program

if you want to do something really nice, you wont find much for free. If you're gonna do real work, just bust out the cash for something nice. Its worth it.

Re: Video editing program

I've got video edit magic
and a serial number to go with it
it works well for basic cut and paste editing and adding transition effects and a soundtrack

Re: Video editing program

I used to use Pinnacle, I was very impressed with it. Not hard to learn. Pretty cheap compared to many of the other video editing software out there. The one I am currently using is Adobe Premiere, it's close to professional, but you need the other Adobe products to really get the full capability from the software. Also check out Avid, that's tip top of the line. You may not need the sophisticated stuff, but you never know if you'll start to enjoy it and make money off of it.
