Are you happy with the country you live in? Why or why not? If you had to pick a different country, which one would it be?

I love living in Canada. I like the social programs we have, I like the vast amounts of untamed land, I like the fact that we are peacekeepers and pretty laidback about things like drugs and gay marriage.

If I had to pick a different place to live, I'd pick The Netherlands because it is very similar in a lot of ways.

Re: The Country You Live In...

I dont HATE living in the USA because it could be a lot worse, but I dont love it either. I dont like the fact that we feel we are the most powerful country in the world and everyone else is inferior to us. I dont like the fact that we stuck our noses somewhere where they didnt belong *ahem* Iraq. I dont like how leaders are chosen (electoral college). Oh, i could go on and on...

If I could live anywhere it would probably be Amsterdam, just because they are so laid back and everything is legal there. Seems like a much happier place to live.

Re: The Country You Live In...

I like living in the United States, but I'd love to live in another country for awhile when I'm older. I stayed at my Aunt's in Belgium for a month and loved it there. Canada would be cool too. No matter what country, I'd have to live in a city with some cool coffee shops, bars, a movie theater, museums and art galleries or I'd go nuts. I want live in different cities around the U.S. first, sometimes another city feels like another country.

I do like it here in the US as compared to other countries that I have travelled to. If I had choose a new country to live in, I think I would choose New Zealand. The people there have good outlook and seem to enjoy life, and you never hear about the Kiwis involved in too many world affairs. Not to mention I wouldn't have to learn a new language.

I want me some Canada. I loved Toronto and Vancouver. But Portland is pretty freaking cool, too.

Eh. Take it or leave it.
Not that I have any particularly serious beef with the U.S., but still...
I'm about the least patriotic motherfucker you're ever going to meet, insofar as if the United States was ever to be invaded, toppled, and fragmented into annexable territories by a meticulously coordinated pincer assault of fearless Mexican Conquistadores and vicious Canadian Mooseriders (it's only a matter of time, people! Mark my words...), I could stick around and welcome our amusing new overlords or just pack my life up and move to Italy, both with equal aplomb and without really feeling as though I'm missing much.

In fact, I'd probably be pretty excited at the opportunity.

Okay....here's a pretty close encounter to starting a flame war..

I'm not racist, I don't care who you are or where you come from. But I am a serious nationalist. If you come to Canada and do not attempt to learn our values and customs you should leave. Yes, keep your heritage and celebrate your traditions, but adapt to mine.

Drink beer, complain about Americans and leave the gangs to the Hells Angels!

If it wasnt for the electoral college, the midwest would have no say in anything.

We cant let big cities have the say in everything.

Thank the electoral college for giving you a voice.

I like Kentucky, no matter what country its in ... but I'd love to live in Italy long enough to learn to cook real Italian food, and get disgustingly fat on it.

Re: The Country You Live In...

I like the country I live in (US), but at the same time, I feel like a semi-prisoner here because of what the political agenda has been.

In the US, you can travel freely to other States without giving much thought to where you're going, if you'll be permitted to go there, if you're money's accepted readily, if customs will harass you, if you'll be able to stay out of jail easily, etc.

But as an American, I feel like I'd have to be too alert (for anti-American types) if traveling anywhere outside of the US and Canada. IMHO - that stinks!!
