Larry Walker To The Cardinals
The only weak link we had has been filled. Larry Walker is now a Cardinal. His best days are behind him, but he's still better than most guys out there. Let's just pray he can stay healthy!
It's a lot like 1967 and 1968, when an aging Roger Maris solidified the outfield and was a huge factor in reaching the Series.
Maybe that ugly Season Ticket charge isn't so bad after all. I'm guaranteed seats in October!!!!!!!!!!!

Good pickup for the Cards to solidify the order. Its little stuff like that, that separates your team from the field. The Cards have the division wrapped up, but we'll see your ass in the playoffs. Go Cubbies!

Re: Larry Walker To The Cardinals
Living in Colorado, I can tell you I'm absolutely not shocked by this. The Rockies suck, nobody has cared about them since they made the playoffs in like their second or third season.
Trading away Walker just shows how committed this organization is to sucking.

Re: Larry Walker To The Cardinals
He should have gone to an AL team because he is pretty much a DH these days.
Yes, Colorado sucks. Dante Bichette is playing for the Nashua Pride these days....give him a call.

Re: Larry Walker To The Cardinals
I like the move by the Cards, but I still wonder about their pitching in the playoffs. They are all nice pitchers, but no one who is really a shutdown ace. Pitching usually beats hitting in the playoffs.

If the starters can go six, the bullpen can slam the door. This team's pitching staff reminds me in many ways of the 1975 Reds (The Big Red Machine won 108 games that year). The Reds had Don Gullett, Jack Billlingham, Fred Norman, Gary Nolan and other "solid" pitchers. But the Reds bullpen was stellar (Clay Carroll, Pedro Borbon, Will McEneny(sp?), Pat Darcy, etc.).
This Cardinal team is special. You can feel the energy from them every day at the ball park. They believe they can win and believe in each other.

Cards won't win the World Series, or I'll put a Cardinals tribute signature in my posts.

Re: Larry Walker To The Cardinals
One of my favorite players, but not one of my favorite teams. . . oh well. Wish him well in STL. And he's injury-prone as sin, but the guy can still play the field.

He's no Griffey Jr. when it comes to injury-prone though.

Hey, I'll take Larry Walker and his injuries in right compared to JD Drew, who we had there last year. JD is a great talent. But he'll take himself out of the lineup for a hangnail. Wimpy. Just plain wimpy.

Re: Larry Walker To The Cardinals
But remember - Walker played out the whole injured groin thing for 3 long months this season. And he nixed trades to Arizona, Florida & Texas the last few years. He doesn't want the pressure of playing for a winner.
That attitude doesn't bode well for a team full of overachievers who want to win. I'll be interested to see how it all plays out...

Motivation can do a lot. This is a team of guys who'll do whatever it takes to win. Rolen volunteered to move out of the 4 whole if that's where LaRussa wanted to bat Walker. These guys are all about winnng. No Sammy Sosa bullshit here. No hop step, point to the sky garbage. You hit one out--you put your head down, circle the bases and act like you've parked one before.
As for over-achievers: OUCH! I'd say the starters have overachieved. The bullpen is unconcious. But, I wouldn't say that about Pujols, Renteria, Rolen or Edmonds. Sanders is doing what he always does. So is Matheny. Tony Wo. is having a good year, but he also has a ton of lumber behind him, so he's seeing better pitches.
This is damned fine team.
