Team USA Basketball
I'm sure the interests are really low, but how scary does Team USA basketball look? I mean an exhibition loss to Italy and a last second shoot to beat Germany, this could be another embarrasing Olympic showing.

Re: Team USA Basketball
So far a pathetic exhibition of basketball. This team isn't built for international play. No one on the team can make 3's. International teams play zone so its going to be tuff for them to win the Gold. However we have the best talent still so somehow we should win it all.

Re: Team USA Basketball
I think its refreshing that finally there is enough european talent or NBA players have gotten so lazy and cocky that there will be some competition. If I wasn't American I would root against them...

Re: Team USA Basketball
I'm glad they are going to get their asses wiped. AI is a mf punk ass bitch who needs to be thrown out of his crib naked.
Stephon Marbury?!?!!? Are you f-ing serious! WTF is he doing on the team? TEAM isn't in his vocabulary. Did you see his quote...something to the effect of we are passing too much...we need to just shoot. OH boy.
Poor Duncan...dude should have run when he saw his supporting cast. He doesn't deserve this hell....

Re: Team USA Basketball
We dont have the best shooters, and i cant believe we came so close to losing to Germany. But with how close the 3 is intl play.. Tim Duncan probably shoot mid 30's%. The zone sucks, tho. I hate the defense, I think it makes basketball boring, blah.

Re: Team USA Basketball
Foreign players are much better at the technical game (i.e. shooting 3s). The olympics is all about shooting, not pounding on the inside and the zone stops the slashes of an Iverson.

Re: Team USA Basketball
the US team has too many ball hogs
it seems like they have all the top scorers, but are lacking in the assists department

Re: Team USA Basketball
Looked a lot better tonight. The team is still missing a pure point and perimeter play. The only hope for this team is getting the ball to Duncan and Carmelo or AI shooting well.

Re: Team USA Basketball
I still believe in my heart of hearts that the US can win gold if they buckle down. It seems like they are starting to find a rhythm as exampled against the Aussies. We'll see how it turns out.

Like my old coach always screamed, "There is no "I" in team". And this team is pathetic. No mid-range or long range shooters. No one knows how to pick and roll. The Olympic team is merely a reflection of how bad we've allowed the game to become. The NBA guys aren't fundamentally sound because the NBA doesn't stress solid basketball. It's all run and guy street ball. And no matter how good you look dunking in a guy's face, if his teammate cuts off a pick at the other end and nails a three, you're still a point down.
The reason the original Dream Team was so incredible was that you had superstars that were also team guys--Bird, Magic, Michael, Stockton, Malone, Pippen, Barkley and all the other guys on that squad made the people around them better with their ability to find the open man and give up the ball. The fact that they actually worked on "D" didn't hurt either.
I played basketball. I've coached basketball. I grew up in Indiana, while it was still the nation's basketball hotbed. But the state of the game now just makes me sad. And the Olympic team embodies everything that's wrong with basketball today.

Re: Team USA Basketball
The international game is a little different. I think the US version of basketball will get closer to the international game. The new rules in the nba seem to emphasize more team basketball anyways. It's just a matter of adjusting.

Re: Team USA Basketball
Not only is a matter of adjusting but the USA players haven't played together as a team while a lot of the internations teams have been together for awhile.
They have put together 2 wins now, and it looks like most of the games will be close rather than blowouts as they were in the past which makes it more interesting in my opinion.

Re: Team USA Basketball
Well they end up with the bronze.
The greatest collection of individual talent in the tournament, but collectively as a team they did not play it. The "Dream Team" tag is silly now. . . as the rest of the world has been catching up to the United States in basketball. I think the competition is healthy for the sport, and will only promote renewed interest from everyone.
