Re: Picking up hitchhikers...Yes or No?

I say no, but it depends on the situation. I did pick up one once, he was so inebriated he didn’t know which way was which and he was trying to walk 20 miles home. Plus he handed me a fist full of money for helping him out.

Re: Picking up hitchhikers...Yes or No?

I've never had any problems with hitchhikers, if anything some actually make interesting conversation. I would say that most are just stranded and are more than grateful to get a ride. I as a habit pick em up, girlfriend don't like it very much though.

Re: Picking up hitchhikers...Yes or No?

Hell no you shouldn't pick up hitchhikers. For reinforcement watch the Six Feet Under episode from a couple weeks ago - where gay guy David picks up some total psycho and almost gets himself killed. I think the ep is called "That's My Dog"...

But if I see a chick in distress, potential Penthouse Forum story, then of course I would pick her up.

Re: Picking up hitchhikers...Yes or No?

theres this one stretch of road in NY near where i live, its like a beach community so people hitch hike all the time. Ive picked up a few, mostly young kids that cant drive yet. So i guess my answer is yes i pick up hitch hikers

Re: Picking up hitchhikers...Yes or No?

years ago hitchhiking was a way of life. you almost felt guilty if you had room and didn't pick them up.

now, forget about it. besides the obvious ( creeps, drunks, homeless, etc.), pretty girls and kids may have motives too. ask kobe about that kind of stuff.

if it looks like trouble call the cops. someone needs a ride and you want to help? buy them a bus ticket.

it's kind of sad. It was sort of fun for both driver and hiker. I used to meet a lot of interesting people, but those kind of people don't hitchhike anymore, only the weirdoes and risk takers.

Re: Picking up hitchhikers...Yes or No?

when my mom was pregnant with me her car broke down and she was walking to a phone to call my dad, but she had a long way to walk, and she was pretty pregnant at the time, so it wasnt very easy, and this guy picked her up and took her to a phone to call my dad, and then went even further out of his way to take her to her house, so she didnt have to wait alone at a gas station till he got there. so my mom has always told me to help people out. now if it was a really suspicious looking person, or situation, i proably wouldnt help cuz i would be freaked out. but i am the type of person who trusts everyone and gives everyone the benefit of the doubt. which could possibly get me in trouble helping out wierd people, but it hasnt yet, so im not too worried about it.

on the taking rides from strangers part of it, i might, i would feel bad if someone went out of their way for me, so probably not. but if i had a long way to go, then maybe, its hard to say for sure.

Re: Picking up hitchhikers...Yes or No?

Hmmm....I'd consider picking up a hitchhiker, but I'd only do it if I am driving with a friend or something. Never hurts to have the option of choking them if they get out of hand before shoving them out of the car

My dad used to give hitchhikers a ride in the 70's and he's only had a problem once. Long story short, the person was kicked out.

Re: Picking up hitchhikers...Yes or No?

I'll only pick them up if
a) they are standing near an obviously broken-down vehicle or walking with a jerry can.
b) they have a sign saying where they are trying to get to, most people won't stop cuz they think you are going to the next town or something, sometimes they just need to get to the airport.

I've picked up hitchhikers and I would do it again if I was with a group of people in my suburban. There was one that was so drunk that he fell asleep in like 5 minutes.

Re: Picking up hitchhikers...Yes or No?

I pick up hitch-hikers. You know that, though. But I did up in your neck of the woods, and I do it down here, too. Most of them assume a girl picking them up would have a gun under the seat. One of them asked me, wistfully, "it would be an absolute dream if you took me home and I worked in your yard in exchange for staying with you a few days."
I feel bad for hitch-hikers all around. I've done it and it's the same for men and women alike. You either get someone picking you up who is snapping you up into the saftey of their truck cab, or you get a sexual predator. The guys tell me that they are often picked up by men looking for anonymous gay experiences because they are married or in straight relationships. So the guys get pawed same as the girls. The last guy I picked up (a particularly pretty guy who was a beekeeper once upon a time) told me he wouldn't have messed with me even if he were inclined to, because I was so little I had to be sitting on something that I could hurt him with.
