Checking CD-ROM Speed
I've got a couple of old cd-rom drives I'd like to sell, but they don't have the speed listed on them, and I haven't found in windows where it tells you what speed they are. Does anyone know of a program that can do this for me?, or of a good place too look, or if you'd be willing to buy them sight unseen, I"d be willing to part with both of them for 30 bucks, shipping included.

Re: Checking CD-ROM Speed
What do the labels say? Do a search on google with their part numbers. Also, you can buy 20x/48x drives on eBay or local computer shows for $10-15.

Re: Checking CD-ROM Speed
I didn't think of that, the google part I mean. I know cdroms are as cheap as eggs anymore, but you never know, some one may want them. I sold a VCR on Ebay that didn't work, so why couldn't I sell these. I'll probably just throw them away. Thanks though.

Your trash is someone else's treasure. Sell them on ebay.

Re: Checking CD-ROM Speed
Try Nero InfoTool and Nero CD Speed
If you have Nero installed, then you already have these in the Start Menu in Nero's listing for Nero Toolkit

Re: Checking CD-ROM Speed
Nero...checks for you, and gives you _x and actual kb/s or mb/s throughput

Re: Checking CD-ROM Speed
Thanks guys, I just went thru google and found what I needed. If anyone has a use for a 12x Cyberdrive or a 4x NEC make me an offer. IF not, they'll probably go in the trash.

Re: Checking CD-ROM Speed
CD Drives always good for backups until you can get a better replacement, or for building trash systems (a little crap system that you try to screw up some how just to see what happens, like putting a virus on it)

Re: Checking CD-ROM Speed
I've got 3 computers in my room with a total of 5 cd drives, and 6 hard drives split between them. I've still got the 2 cdroms, 1 2.1gb hard drive, and 2 1.44mb disk drives. Pluse I've got a spare computer with a cd and dual hard drives, So I've got plenty to goof around with.
