Nomar to the Cubs
Thoughts?
As a Sox fan I am a little sad to see Nomar go. I wanted him to be the next in a long line of Red Sox greats. However, after the shit he pulled with and then over the contract negotiations I was glad they moved him. He packed his bags a long time ago in my opinion. Sox got shit for him, but it will probably help in the clubhouse.
Cubs got a steal.

Re: Nomar to the Cubs
Nomar is damaged used goods. I'm not sad to see him leave. IMO the Sox should have shipped his ass after the whole Arod fiasco went sour. Even if they got crap for him back then. He made up his mind back when he rejected the Sox's offer, 2003 season, that he no longer wanted to be a Red Sox. Honestly, I think this trade is actually good for the Sox. I would have liked to see an OF in the deal to help with Nixon being out but hopefully Kapler will prove that he's can be a solid everyday player. Also, We no longer have to worry about resigning Nomar. Hopefully the Sox will focus on resigning Pedro and Tek before they become free agents. If that doesn't happen then this will go down as a bad trade for the Sox.

Re: Nomar to the Cubs
This one came out of left field.
I can only think that Nomar had become a distraction to the team. . . and Epstein wanted him gone. Hopefully, the move galvanizes the team as they move forward towards October.

Re: Nomar to the Cubs
i've got mixed feelings too. glad to see him go because i believ he was starting to be a negative asset in the clubhouse. sorry to see him go because, well, he's Nomar.
i wish him luck in Chicago. now lets get back to the season....

Re: Nomar to the Cubs
Mixed feelings as well. I would have liked to see Nomar be a part of a World Series win since him Wakefield, and Nixon were with the team the longest. But since the offseason Arod debacle things werent right and he was going to walk. I still think Theo needed a starting pitcher for Nomar. The Cubs got a steal and I say he pushes them over the edge to get the World Series.

Re: Nomar to the Cubs
My biggest problem with Nomar is like thewalrus said he forced the sox hand back in 2003 when he rejected (or ignored depending on what articles you read) ther contract offer for 15 million per season over 4 years (60 million). Rather than sit down and talk Nomar and his agent reject the offer and close negotiations. What kind of shit is that!?! At that point it was obvious that all the "West Coast" had some truth to them. Then after that Nomar has the nerve to get pissed when we make a run at Arod. I used to love Nomar because aszzyzzgy said "well, he's Nomar" but I lost a lot of respect for him after the way he and his agent handled things. I'm sad to see him go but think it's in the best interest of the club. Play on....

Re: Nomar to the Cubs
When I heard I was shocked and probably yelled more then my share of explatives about the Sox front office but when I read more about the deal I realized the move was probably solid it was just sad to see him go....

Re: Nomar to the Cubs
As a Cubs fan, it's a beautiful day, especially without having to give up Clement. Nomar might be able to give the club the spark they need to make a run at St. Louis, or at least wrap up the Wild Card.

Re: Nomar to the Cubs
Sitting here in St. Louis, it makes me sick to see Nomar in Cubbie blue. Another big market team, backed by big corporate $$$$$$, outspending the competition rather than outthinking it.
One thing for certain, Nomar will hit in Wrigley. He may just make Chicagoans forget Ryne Sandberg.
If the Cubs can sign Nomar, it will be one more great chapter to the Cubs/Cards rivalry. Because he will be a force to be reckoned with.
I'm just sad that the guy turned down $15 mil a year to play with Boston. Normar should have been the next great Red Sox lifer. But I guess those days are over.
Oh well, Nomar. Enjoy the curse of the National League. But instead of looking up and seeing the Yankees, it will be the Cardinals this time!

you obviously have no idea what youre talking about.
first of all, not just cabrera. try cabrera, mientkiewicz, and roberts. cabrera and mientkiewicz are both gold glove infielders. was nomar a gold-glover? nope.
roberts is decent defensively, a great presence in the clubhouse, and HE CAN STEAL BASES. the last two seasons hes has 40+ stolen bases, this year he has 33, has only been caught ONCE. do you have any idea how long its been since the red sox had a legitimate base-stealer? one could argue for johnny damon, but he hasnt put up huge base stealing numbers for us.
sure, the cubs got a good deal getting nomar, but to say "Cabrera? Come on!!!" is just stupid.
