Road Rage.
Yesterday my friend and I were on our way to work when I noticed a blue truck riding practically on my bumper. I was in the left lane doing 70 trying to get him off my rear end, and the speed limit was 65mph. He finally got around me, and my friend Asia pointed out that he was now riding beside me and telling me to pull over. He was wearing an officer uniform, so I pulled over even though he was in a normal truck with no lights or anything. He asked for my license and info, and began cursing me, *F* this and *F* that, saying that the county we were in wasn't his county, but he was calling someone to write me a ticket because he lived in that county, and that the left lane was the passing lane only, I wasn't supposed to be driving in that lane except for passing, that I was an idiot for seeing him in my rear view riding on my bumper and yet still not moving over to let him by. I explained that I was speeding up trying to let him by, but couldn't pass that woman in the right lane and that I was already doing 70mph. He cursed more and said that it didn't matter. He was leaning into my car window, pointing in my face and yelling. He didn't write me a ticket or even run my license. He just handed it back, said his goodbyes, and left. He had also accused me of giving him the finger as he went by, which I never did, and had cursed me for that, too. I was crying so hard that my friend had to drive. I called that county dispatch to file a complaint, but the man wouldn't allow me to see his badge, nametag, or license plates...so I gave a description. It wasn't one of their officers, So I called around the surrounding counties with the description of the uniform and found out it was none of the officers in those counties. I called back to the county it happened in, told them I believed I had been impersonated, and they're supposed to be looking into it. They believe it was a prison guard, who wears the same uniform I had described, and just wanted to pretend to be a cop to pull me over and curse me for not letting him by me. I found out that it could've been worse and that I should've went to a public place to pull over. Also, the law is that the left lane is the fast lane, and not just the passing lane only like the guy had said I was getting a ticket for doing.
The nerve of some people!! I plan to take this all the way and make sure that guy goes to jail for impersonating a police officer.
Has anyone else had any similar experiences?

Re: Road Rage.
That guy was insane. But I can sympathize. I HATE it when some schlub rides in the left lane. (I'm not attacking you though b/c as you said you were passing a woman on the right.) But here in Florida it seems to be the fav. pasttime of the retirees to ride in the left lane even when the right is available or, even worse, to ride next to someone in the right lane and match their speed.

Jenny.... sweetheart.... we want you alive, safe and happy.
Never, never, never pull over for anybody, not even a full fledged police car, if you're in doubt. Pick up your phone, call 911 and get instructions. Getting arrested is a lot better than getting hurt.
oh and by the way. 70 is to slow for the fast lane. Rule of thumb to prevent road-rage. "lead, follow or get out of the way".

Re: Road Rage.
I live in a very rural area, where cops are always your friends or supposed to be anyway. That's why I pulled over, but never again.
The area that I was in, 70 is enough to get a ticket. On that stretch of hwy, the cops will pull you over and give you a ticket for going 70 or above. They really enforce the 65mph there, reguardless if you're passing or not. Any other area, 70 is too slow, but there it's pushing for a ticket.

Re: Road Rage.
I patiently sat in traffic with 4-6 lanes in each direction. Downtown traffic is pretty bad too, but I practice patience there too. It's not until I get to where the bums and winos are that I pretty much duck dodge and weave in and out of lanes to try and pass all of it. I rage a lot, but try to control it.
Some asian dude once followed me on 4 freeways because I "cut him off" doing 75+ on a 65 because he was doing 100+. HE called the cops, they questioned us, and he got scolded and I just went abou my business.
Other than that, I would have BEAT HIS AZZ if he ever stepped out of his car. But he never did.

Re: Road Rage.
I drive for a student run ogranization at my campus where we pick up drunk people from bars and parties and take them home for free. It can be frustrating sometimes when drunk people are giving you directions. We were approaching a light and it wasn't until we got really close that they said we needed to turn left at it, while I was in the right lane. There were cars in the left lane, but plenty of room so I switched over. Well, the car I cut infront of got pissed off even though I was nowhere near him. He sped up and started tailgating me, flashing his brights and honking his horn. After we turned he followed us and continued doing this. I get pissed at people that tailgate so I slammed on my breaks. The sped up into the lane next to me and start swerving at me, trying to run me off the road or hit us. There's always two volunteers in the car at the same time (a girl and a guy), and the other girl started to freak out so I took that as my cue to back off. I turned sharply off onto a side road to get away from them. They kept going, but that was pretty scary.

Re: Road Rage.
Illinois, where I live, just passed legislation that makes it illegal to use the left lane except for passing. I work for the State Legislature, and I'm the one who wrote the bill. So yes, boys and girls, next time you're in Illinois, think of your old pal tubafellow.
I've noticed that the law is largely unenforced here, though. Hmm.
Also, I believe there's a statue on our books that says one can't be pulled over by an unmarked police car (with sirens) for speeding and one cannot be stopped by a police car without sirens for any other offense. So, if you're in my state, feel free to avoid the guy. In Podunk, Alabama, or wherever you're from, however, laws may differ.

Re: Road Rage.
70 mph in Atlanta will get you run off the road. Its 85+ in the left lane, and our highways have 5-8 lanes on each side of the median.

Re: Road Rage.
Whats the deal with people riding up on your ass, then pulling out to pass you....taking their sweet time...then returning to the right lane DIRECTLY in FRONT OF YOU. This especially bothers me in rural montana (the enture state FYI). This happens when the closest car is barely visible. They passing/offending car shoots right in front and spits gravel at your windshield. Often times also slowing down once they pass you. I just dont get it!!!!

Re: Road Rage.
That was a horrible thing for that guy to do. He should be prosocuted for impersonating a police officer as well as charged with the traffic violations of following to close, speeding, and road rage. I am not sure if road rage is a traffic offense there but in many places it is becoming one.
Sorry to hear you had to go through this type of experience. That really sucks.
