Religulous

This is a new Bill Mahr flick, where he tries to explain the ridiculous notion of religion. I used to love his show "Politically Incorrect" on ABC a while back, and his show "Real Time with Bill Mahr," is even better on HBO. I don't get HBO any longer though, so I can't watch Real Time any longer. I saw this trailer before watching the movie "Mongol" last week, although I had seen it already and it made me even more interested in seeing it. Here's the clip, I'm sure most of you won't even watch it, or want to, but I'm giving it to you anyway.

Re: Religulous

I don't understand how people that don't believe in religion autmatically need to press their BS on the rest of us. Okay, fuck off, I know there are tons of people that press religion on other people...preachers, jehovas, etc. But seriously, you don't believe in religion because it is just a cultish organized group of people that try and make you do good, and give them money. So now, you are forming your own groups, collecting money for promotion of your non-beliefs, and putting them on youtube for everyone else to see....does that make sense? About as much as fucking for virginity and killing abortion doctors to stop murder.

Sit down for a second and analyze what the religion itself is actually preaching. Be it the 10 commandments, or whatever rules your sect actually says to do. Is it really THAT bad that someone is trying to keep you from killing people, being nice to your parents, and quit fucking the neighbors wife?

Okay, so you are against the killings and wars that have been fought because of religion. Great, but throughout the history of the world, even if you believe in evolution and not intelligent design or whatever, there were wars faught for pretty much stupid reasons. When it comes down to it, most of the modern civilization started out putting value on minerals (gold silver diamons etc.) and established their own cities with their own rules and most of them mimic religious rules and then for some reason, they start bombing each other because one country has nukes and another one doesn't.

So...you don't believe in the spirit in the sky. Great. Now STFU and get to work.

Re: Religulous

You know what, I don't force my beliefs on people, I don't expect them to force theirs on me. Also, aren't documentaries supposed to be based more or less on fact? You can neither prove nor disprove religion. So, what you're telling me that basically Bil Maher is just running around saying, "I don't believe in religion, I think it's stupid, you tell me you believe in it, therefore you're stupid."

Nobody says it better than Mr. George Carlin!

In the interest of full disclosure, I am not pushing any beliefs on anybody. After all, religion is the greatest killer of all........

Re: Religulous

No, man is the greatest killer of all. If there was no such thing as religion, we would kill each other over what flavor pizza is better, which, consequently is either ham and pineapple, or California Pizza Kitchen's barbecue chicken.

Re: Religulous

If that's true, explain all the wars of the past that were fought over Catholicism, Christianity, Budism, Hinduism, etc...

The Inquisitions anyone?

Re: Religulous

Catholicism, Christianity, Budism, Hinduism, etc. never killed anyone. People killed other people claiming it was in the name of Catholicism, Christianity, Islam etc.

Re: Religulous

If I'm not mistaken, man fought those battles, not Jesus and Mohammad. Let me repeat, if it wasn't for religion, there would be another reason to battle.

The US civil war, was that about religion? Vietnam? Korea? WWI and WWII? Tribal wars in Africa? Napoleon? Alexander the Great? Attila the Hun? The Akkadians, Sumerians, Babylonians, and other first-wave civilized states?

So, should I believe that since wars were waged on boundaries, I should believe that land is responsible for wars? Maybe I shouldn't believe in Hitler since he was a major factor in WWII. Did Archduke Franz Ferdinand not exist, since his assassination ultimately led to WWI? Does Korea even exist?!

My whole world is being shaken right now.

Yes, it would have happened, with a different excuse.

Exactly. You can't tell me that every death at the hands of another human has been in the name of religion.

like what?

I find it funny how there is this big thing now about how people expressing their DIS-belief are called prudes and snobs. The religious go to great lengths to push their religions, employing the scare tactic of burning in hell if you don't believe their stories. There is no such thing as an atheist missionary.

If you guys are so adamant to defend your religion, show us up with something other than massive attacks on our personalities.

Believe in what or who you want to, that should be anyone's choice. But stop forcing that shit down our throats from birth. I live in the south, so my influences are a bit more extreme than a lot of places, I realize that this isn't the case everywhere.

You're being an atheist missionary just in this post.

You're telling me to believe what I want after you've made it clear that you don't agree with my beliefs.

Excuse me if I'm mistaken, but I haven't even told you what my religion is, but you are generalizing "you people". Your entire post was forcing your non-belief down my throat.

I keep my beliefs to myself. My girlfriend probably couldn't even tell you exactly what I believe, so categorizing me and clumping me in a group with a bunch of people, exactly what you are saying Christians do to you, is absurd. I'll be honest, I've had my run-ins with those who don't necessarily agree with my views, but if they want to get all judgmental and high-and-mighty, that's their problem. The Book they say they believe in tells them to not act like that.

I find it funny that more and more religious people, outside of zealots, are becoming more and more accepting, while non-believers are becoming more hateful. An atheistic war is still a religious war, wouldn't you think?
