I know how much a lot of you support unions. You all know how fucked I think they are (they put my grandfather out of business and the only way my dad's and mine has lasted is by keeping unions the fuck out).

Note to the liberal contingent on this board: this does NOT mean I'm voting for McCain. It just means there is no way in holy hell I'd ever vote for a union sympathizing fuck like Obamamama I don't think I could handle a communist leading the United States of America.

Obama Takes On Tesco
Lionel Laurent, 06.25.08, 4:30 PM ET
LONDON -

Meet the latest weapon in the war against Britain's controversial supermarket chain Tesco: presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

The Democrats' best hope for the White House has sent a letter to the chief executive of Tesco (other-otc: TSCDY - news - people ), Sir Terry Leahy, to push for a change in relations between the chain's U.S. business and the United Food and Commercial Workers' Union.

Forbes.com obtained a copy of the letter, which includes a strong request that Tesco change its policy of non-engagement with the union "at the earliest opportunity." Senator Obama adds: "I am aware of Tesco's reputation in Britain as a partner to unions. I would hope that you would bring those values to your work in America."

This is not the first time that Obama has contacted a Tesco executive to support the food workers' union, which claims that Tesco has refused to change its behavior Stateside to match its policy on union representation at home. The presidential candidate wrote a similar letter to the head of Tesco's U.S. subsidiary Fresh & Easy, Tim Mason, back in November 2007; his request went unheeded.

But Obama is no longer just a hopeful among many, and his words could have more clout now that he is close to winning the presidential post.

"Hopefully, the political advice that is given to the executive of Tesco is that this guy is a serious player whose views should be heeded," said a spokesperson for the UFCW on Wednesday. "If Tesco continues to refuse to engage, then the UFCW's campaign will continue to raise awareness through whatever avenues possible."

A spokesperson for Tesco was unavailable for comment.

The UFCW is planning to reach out to Tesco's shareholders to push its business case for recognition and engagement from the chain. It hopes to convince investors that the problems currently facing the business--which is expected to lose £100 million this year--require better relations with the 1.3 million-strong union.

The union claims that Tesco has a partnership agreement with Britain's Usdaw union, which stands in stark contrast with its non-engagement policy in the U.S. The union also believes that Tesco is behind competitors like Ahold (other-otc: AHODF - news - people ) and Safeway (nyse: SWY - news - people ) in this regard.

Tesco launched its Fresh & Easy business in the U.S. last year, and is planning to open its 62nd next month in Manhattan Beach, Calif.

What Shadow?

Today, when Barack and Hillary where together, he changed his Tune on Military. He Stated he would work to ensure we have a Strong military Force. and "That we would gradually draw down the forces in Iraq" (he changed his tune from immediate with drawl.

But he did state that he wants companies to stop taking work over seas, and to ensure they no longer get tax breaks for certain jobs changes. He wants businesses to only employee in the USA. He also wants the Minimum wage raised so that families can live on that, and to grow with inflation.
Now, I know that is a positive idea on the surface, but where is this going to come from?
If Minimum Wage is raised too high, companies have to raise prices, and then inflation kicks in and then Minimum wages go up, etc.
also, due to the high Salaries Americans demand, companies would have to cut employees, and have layoffs, to ensure they make $$ (that is the idea of a business).

And of course he spoutted about the rich should be paying much more in taxes, and 95% of the country getting more tax breaks.
He is a man that will twist the words and never come through.

he is a good speaker, beware!

He's a democrat! They'll promise you the moon and then give you pop rocks and coke.

Unions are what drove employment overseas to begin with. DUH!

We also have a social security system that is already on the brink of depletion. So where is this "pot of gold" suppose to come from to support living wages and full pensions?

Democrats (and to be fair, most politicians, but more so dems) remind me of kids running for high school president. "If I'm elected, I'll make them put a jacuzzi in the student center and show first run movies in the gymnasium for everyone on Fridays instead of classes!"

"Another ploy"? WTF? His letterhead. His stupid fucking pandering to the union.

Interesting example of foreign policy. Just shy of giving them an offer they can't refuse
