Anyone have some diet advice?

click on one of our sponsors! OR REMOVE ADS
Hey all, its been a while since my last post/thread but I have been wondering if any of you have some diet advice. I'm about 6 feet tall and at an unhealthy 245 pounds and I am trying to lose about 40 pounds in the next 2 months if that is at all possible. I have a membership at my local gym and I've been going everyday doing cardio and the weight just doesn't seem to come off. I'll admit I could be eating better and I am dedicated, I just don't want to pay for some bullshit online diet plan and I was wondering if any of you guys have diet advice that could go along with the daily exercise that could help me lost weight fast.

Thanks to any who reply

Re: Anyone have some diet advice?

Successful dieting requires drastic behavior modification. Diets such as Slim Fast are starvation diets. Your caloric intake goes down if you use a starvation diet, and your metabolism drops. Then, when you return to normal eating, your metabolisom goes back up and you regain what you lost and more. This is called the yoyo syndrome of dieting.

In short, don't pay for any program or fad. Find foods you like that are good for you. Quit the ones you like that are keeping you fat.

They say 3 pounds a week is healthy. I say just keep doing what you are doing and it eventually will come off.

Re: Anyone have some diet advice?

Eat Healthy! Stay away from Fast Food Places!!! Even the "Light diets" are bad.

Cook all your own food.
Chicken and fish are the best food for meat.
Veggies are a great side to the main course.
Fruit for snacks, no granola bars or pop tarts.
Drink lots of water, and cut down on the booze.
Walking is the best exercise, 45 minutes in the morning to get the body working, keeps burning calories all day.
I talk my dogs for a 2 mile walk, just about 35 minutes, then I do stretches, sit-ups and Push-ups. As many as I can. I have really slimmed down in the last 3 months.

It takes time! it will be gradual, so do not get discouraged.

Stay away from most beef, expecially Hamburgers!! Tye are loaded with fat.
Same with Hot dogs, even the turkey ones have crap and fillers in them.

Good luck!

Re: Anyone have some diet advice?

The golden number is 1500 calories. Any diet you look at usually tells you to exercise and limit your calories to 1500 calories. Forget the slim fast, etc. if you can't lose weight on 1500 calories, you're probably anorexic.

That gives you about 500 calories per meal. It really ain't hard if you stick to one serving. Salt, butter, cream, and fried are no longer found in your dictionary. Replace them with pepper, margarine, milk and broiled(or baked).

Hot cereal is best for breakfast with 2 pieces of toast, coffee and juice. Limit eggs to one and never with meat. Try to eat an egg no more than twice a week. If you have meat try the turkey variety of bacon or sausage with pancakes. In any case the important thing is to try to keep portions to one.

Limit meat(lean steak, chicken or turkey breast, or fish Broiled or baked) to 1/4 pound each for lunch and dinner and bread to two slices per meal. Vegetables are suppose to be calorie free as long as they're not cooked so salads are a plus but you got to watch the dressing. Condiments are another thing you have to watch or avoid. If you drink soda switch to diet soda or juice. V8 came out with a bunch of varieties just check the serving size and calories.
Don't forget between meal snacks of piece of fruit or vegetable(carrot sticks) and your daily water ration of 3 pints(6 glasses). If you really have the erge for something check the calories and stick to what is considered one serving.

As far exercise goes, the best exercise for losing weight is lower body so hop on the stationary bike and pedal your ass off.

As Adreniline said 3 lbs is considered healthy. You may drop a bit more at first.

I was extremely big at 492 and droped 200 lbs just watching my diet. I shattered my knee so I can't do any of the exercise like a stationary bike that would help me lose weight. So you should be able to knock off the wieght if your serious about losing it.

PS. stay away from beer until you lose the weight. It's high in calories at 175 a bottle.

I dont know about you but whenever i want to loose a couple kilos i just cut the unhealthy shit like pizza, burgers, french fries, etc. I eat more fruit and salad than usual, drink a lot of water and i forget about beer for a little while.

Re: Anyone have some diet advice?

eat six meals a day and include lean protein with each. target 1800 to 2000 calories. if you eat too little, the body starts turning muscle into fat, and you end up yoyoing like michaeljohn said

counting the calories is crucial. at your present weight, controlling your diet should be your priority. all that cardio you are doing is good and burns fat, but limiting the food will burn more. the more you lose, the more important the cardio becomes, but diet is always more important

They say 3 pounds a week is healthy

all my sources say 2 pounds per week is whats safe, not 3. if you lose 40 lbs in 2 months it won't be healthy. keep it real, yo

Walking is the best exercise, 45 minutes in the morning to get the body working, keeps burning calories all day

it's a myth that cardio has an afterburn effect. weight lifting has an afterburn effect, though

The golden number is 1500 calories. Any diet you look at usually tells you to exercise and limit your calories to 1500 calories

thats just an average they print on food labels, halfway between the minimum of 1800 for men and 1200 for women. youre a man so its 1800. i say up to 2000 to be safe. you might be able to do 1500 on a rotation diet to lose weight faster, but that's getting complicated

Re: Anyone have some diet advice?

I lost 50 pounds (going from 245 to 195) a few years ago. Heres what I did:

DIET:
breakfast = an orange
lunch = an orange
dinner = grilled chicken with cheese sandwich, no sauce
LOTS OF WATER throughout the day
NOTHING ELSE

EXERCISE:
running = worked my way from almost dying after 5 minute jog to three miles / five times a week
lifting = full body regular routine

The starvation diet worked because I was actively working on muscle building at the same time so my body wasn't able to burn anything BUT all the stored fat.

Re: Anyone have some diet advice?

Pretty good advice above.

One "diet" that I found that worked good in the past was Weight Watchers. Sure the meetings are full of whiny pigs, but doing the points and weighing in keeps you honest.

These days I just do a combo of what everyone above is saying. I understand that you want to "lose weight". But seriously, fuck that. The goal should be feeling good.

Once again (like above) cut out the fast food and booze. Drink the H2O. Cardio is killer; jogging/walking and swimming are great. Eat small portions throughout the day to stoke the metabolism.

I gave up on the idea of losing weight and decided I just want to get to the point that I feel good and I am able to do what I want, when I want, without sucking wind too bad. Ie; surfing, bodyboarding, bodysurfing, wakeboarding, paddleboarding, etc.. I was at a point that I could do about 5 minutes of wakeboarding and then I was hating life. I'd paddle out for a surf and have to sit outside in the lineup for 10 minutes just to catch my breath. Now that I've cut the booze way down, I jog and/or swim every morning and don't touch fast food; I'm starting to reach my goal of being able to hit my stoke without gasping too bad.

Our society is so focused on "weight loss". Hell, it's a multi billion dollar business!

Seriously though, fuck the scale and focus on the stoke of feeling good and healthy.

Re: Anyone have some diet advice?

i weighted in at 210 a month ago in this lil weight loss challenge here at work, I cut out soda and started drinking water.. that was 10 lbs. I did stop the snacking and just chewed gum to keep myself thinking I was eating something.. I started eating more shrimp and catfish and salads.. Im down to 196ish now. give or take..

Im trying, but im not killing myself to make weight cause all the other fuckers dropped out already. bastards... but I will maintain and possibly lose more cause my goal weight was to get down to 185. id like to fit back in a pair of 34's.. comfortably.. My exercising is shit, and my treadmill is working as intended... I can hang 4 shirts on each side

gl with your weight loss !

Drink your water at room temp. It's supposed to help increase metabolism.

Re: Anyone have some diet advice?

WOW! I would die with the Calorie diets!!!!

Here is what I have each and EVERY day

Breakfast, Bowl (two serving size) of Cereal - Usually Cinnamon life or similar, with 2% milk, Coffee

Mid morning snack - two Chewy Granola bars, Coffee

Lunch - Varies: Two BLTs on Wheat bread and water, or 4 Hot dogs, or Three Brats, or Three Thick Peanut Butter and Honey and Pretzels, or leftovers (two Pork chops and Pasta / 1lb Steak and Pasta)

Dinner - varies - If I have Chicken: 4 or 5 thighs and a side (veggie or Pasta or Rice)
if I have wings 20 Wings and side
if I have Steak: 20+ oz Rib eye and bake potato with BUTTER

plus I still drink beer. - Yes, High Metabolism helps, but so does walking about 5 or 6 miles a day at work does too.

I've seen several guys over the years plump up nicely when they changed jobs and went to sitting all day. My one buddy was always about 190 lbs until he changed jobs and went to sitting at the computer all day. He was a big fan of chicken wings and Canadian beer. He gained 100 lbs or more and has a bad case of the gout!
