Hypocrite of the Century (and a total twat to boot)
Energy Guzzled by Al Gore’s Home in Past Year Could Power 232 U.S. Homes for a Month
Gore’s personal electricity consumption up 10%, despite “energy-efficient” home renovations
NASHVILLE - In the year since Al Gore took steps to make his home more energy-efficient, the former Vice President’s home energy use surged more than 10%, according to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research.
“A man’s commitment to his beliefs is best measured by what he does behind the closed doors of his own home,” said Drew Johnson, President of the Tennessee Center for Policy Research. “Al Gore is a hypocrite and a fraud when it comes to his commitment to the environment, judging by his home energy consumption.”
In the past year, Gore’s home burned through 213,210 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, enough to power 232 average American households for a month.
In February 2007, An Inconvenient Truth, a film based on a climate change speech developed by Gore, won an Academy Award for best documentary feature. The next day, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research uncovered that Gore’s Nashville home guzzled 20 times more electricity than the average American household.
After the Tennessee Center for Policy Research exposed Gore’s massive home energy use, the former Vice President scurried to make his home more energy-efficient. Despite adding solar panels, installing a geothermal system, replacing existing light bulbs with more efficient models, and overhauling the home’s windows and ductwork, Gore now consumes more electricity than before the “green” overhaul.
Since taking steps to make his home more environmentally-friendly last June, Gore devours an average of 17,768 kWh per month –1,638 kWh more energy per month than before the renovations – at a cost of $16,533. By comparison, the average American household consumes 11,040 kWh in an entire year, according to the Energy Information Administration.
In the wake of becoming the most well-known global warming alarmist, Gore won an Oscar, a Grammy and the Nobel Peace Prize. In addition, Gore saw his personal wealth increase by an estimated $100 million thanks largely to speaking fees and investments related to global warming hysteria.
“Actions speak louder than words, and Gore’s actions prove that he views climate change not as a serious problem, but as a money-making opportunity,” Johnson said. “Gore is exploiting the public’s concern about the environment to line his pockets and enhance his profile.”
The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, a Nashville-based free market think tank and watchdog organization, obtained information about Gore’s home energy use through a public records request to the Nashville Electric Service.
The Tennessee Center for Policy Research is an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization committed to achieving a freer, more prosperous Tennessee through the ideas of liberty. Visit TCPR online at: www.tennesseepolicy.org.

Re: Hypocrite of the Century (and a total twat to boot)
They blow the comparison way out of proportion though. They're comparing his yearly usage to monthly usage. His yearly usage for a huge house to the monthly usage of an average sized one. If you make the same comparison then he used enough energy to power 19.3 average houses for one year. Which would go down to about 10 houses his sized (guessing). That's still waaaaay too much energy consumption though. Especially for someone so supposedly gung ho about conservation.

Re: Hypocrite of the Century (and a total twat to boot)
I find offense to this post, as it is singling out one Democratic member of Congress.
Senator Al Gore has every right to waste and abuse power, since he is supposed to be the President of the United States. He needs all the power and space to cover hs vast intelligence and the people to protect him.
I am sure that there are Many more Democrats that Abuse their power (electrically speaking) as much as Al does, and possibly some Republicans as well.
NOW, my question is....
If Barack obama "obama raped and killed a woman in 1991" brings up th Popular vote for Al Gore and thinks he should be President, then how come he does not consent to Hillary, who won the Popular vote for Democratic Candidate? (she did!)
(sorry, I have had alot of beer tonight - Guinness is GOOD!)

Re: Hypocrite of the Century (and a total twat to boot)
I agree with a lot of the stuff Gore says about the environment and our dependence on fossil fuels, but I do not agree with how he practices what he preaches.
You would think for a guy with that much money, he could buy the up to date technology and get off the power grid.
Question, do we know where he gets his power from? Is it from a green source?

Re: Hypocrite of the Century (and a total twat to boot)
Yeah... the first thing I noticed was that we're comparing his yearly usage to the monthly usage of others.
It's a lot of power still, but I'm starting to wonder what all is going on in that house to pull so much power. The only thing I can think of (and accept) would be that there are a lot of data servers or computer arrays to help him and his team to better understand his "global warming" position. If it's not that, then it really should be less power usage.

Re: Hypocrite of the Century (and a total twat to boot)
I noticed the inconsistency with the yearly and monthly comparisons, too. Not that I like him or anything, but you should compare apples to apples. Even if he pulls his power from green sources, I still say he should set an example by REDUCING his demand for energy. Use less and utilize green sources: thumbs up. Use more, from green or non-green sources: foot in the ass.
It really would be good to learn more about where this power (energy) comes from and what the hell he's doing with it. No matter how you look at it, that's a hell of a lot of power.
At this time, I would like to thank Al Gore for using way too much energy; his energy consumption provided this thread. This thread provided my 1500th post. Thanks Big Al!!

Re: Hypocrite of the Century (and a total twat to boot)
Ok, so for the uneducated, that cannot do math....
Gore uses enough electricity in one year, that would Power 232 Houses in one Month.
there are 12 Months in one Year
So divide 232 by 12 and you get 19.333
So, Al Gore uses enough power in his "Green" house that could easily power 19 Homes in the same year.
I guess that is not a big enough number for some people, but that is the size of one standard Block.
of course, he needs a lot of power to feed that Ego!

Re: Hypocrite of the Century (and a total twat to boot)
How much rise in the sea level is because of this? Polar bears drown? Crops die? Oh wait! I'm sure he purchases carbon offsets!
If he does, how in the hell will that help the massive use of energy? Carbon offsets seem to me like the guy on the corner with three cups and a pingpong ball. Want to buy into the game??
