VISTA automatic updates

click on one of our sponsors! OR REMOVE ADS
are driving me nuts! My GF's computer halts whatever you're in the middle of doing whenever it downloads and installs updates. Then, the comp restarts and brings you to where you were and what you were doing. Problem: this could take a few minutes to complete. During that time, I can't work on the task at hand; I can pick up where I left off after the downloads are installed and the comp restarts.

Is there a way to stop the automatic update from restarting the comp? All other automatic updates (security systems, etc) ask if you want to restart the comp. VISTA doesn't.

What can I do??

Re: VISTA automatic updates

If you dont want updates all you have to do is this. Go to your control panel and click on windows update. When windows update window comes up on the left hand side click on change settings. Then choose never check for updates.

Re: VISTA automatic updates

Thanks for that sugestion! What if I want to keep the updates but not have the update happen and force a restart? On my XP, it asks if I want to restart. I can say no and do it later; this bastard doesn't ask and forces me.

Re: VISTA automatic updates

Just go to the same settings that I told you to do before and it gives you more options that you can select.

Re: VISTA automatic updates

THANK YOU! I'd give you some rep, but I have to spread it around before I can give you some more!
