Juan: I have not applied for a McJob yet. Today, the Repubs proposed offshore drilling and the Dems screamed. Yes, it will take years for the new drilling to have any impact at all, but you have to start sometime.

Personally, I don't think the tree huggers will approve any drilling in any area at any time. It would defeat their purpose. Sort of like the anti-nuclear folks.

And yet China can drill 50 Miles away from Key West.

And even if we did start Alaska Drilling it too would take 10 years, but just the start would immediately drop prices world wide.

Maybe the Speculators will be found out to be lying, and Gas will plummet!

Why is oil so high?

because a "Speculator" said there might be a shortage.

China can't drill anywhere near the coast, 201 miles is the closest they can drill, unless they're part of one of the "American" companies like Exxon Mobil, or one of the other oil companies. It's called the EEZ, or exclusive economic zone, and the country that borders it has sovereignty over the waters surrounding the land. This includes islands, so imagine places such as Hawaii and Alaska, and Maine. As far as drilling in ANWR, it's really not going to much of anything in the way of oil prices, even if the supplies got here tomorrow. Leave it alone, haven't we fucked up enough areas on this planet, without ruining such a pristine piece of wilderness like ANWR.

We need to start thinking about other forms of energy, and not explore any more oil fields ever. I'll probably catch loads of shit for this, but here goes anyway--I think that gas prices should be even higher. Try six, or seven dollars a gallon, or more! They have always paid more in virtually every other country in the world any way. Europe has always been double the price, as we have had. This would spur tremendous growth in alternative energy markets, and transform the world within a matter of years, maybe less. Quote this all you want, I wouldn't like it, and my Mom, who drives about 20 minutes to work, would have to rethink her status as well, but the nation would survive, and we would be better in the long run.

There was a fictional movie that was on TBS I think years ago, called "Oil Storm," and it predicted $7+ a gallon for gas, and detailed what an economy would look like and it wasn't good, but this diversity would be the greatest incentive for the world to finally get off a finite source of energy to propel our societies. Imagine the nation's response to WWII, but multiplied by a bazillion or so. Bazillion is a word huh, it didn't flag it on spell check? Let the shit talking commence, I'm sure I'll be called an idiot, or something more colorful. Later bitches.

Re: Prices at the pump

I understand the mile limit for the EEZ, but off the coast of Florida, it is 50 miles. They are technically in Cuban waters. And the 50 mile zone is what the US claims.
Many countries use the 200 miles so that other countries cannot get near the territories as far as Military is regarded. The US uses 50, so we can move our Ships right up there. And we do.

As far as the quick climb in prices, it is because of the scare. Just because other countries pay more does not mean we should.
Europe has great public transportation systems due to the fact they are SMALLER then we are. The US is really spread out, and we are the largest consumer of Oil

as far as driving to work, I drive 17 miles one way to work, it will not change.

The only thing I agree with is that the US DOES need to work on alternative forms of fuel, power, energy, etc. Why are we not creating more Solar products? or using the wind more?? (but that should be a different thread)

Oh yeah, 93 - Idiot!

Re: Prices at the pump

So back to Gas.

I have to use 91 Octane. Right now near my house it is 144.9 cents a liter.
For you idiots out there, that works out to $5.49 a US gallon.

Prices in Canadian Dollars.

Re: Prices at the pump

$4.739 per gallon today for the 91 octane, at Costco no less, elsewhere here is 5-20 cents more per gallon.

Your $5.49 will be our reality in less than two months at this rate, I'd guess.

OK, that comment was just unecessary...

That being said, Deez has a point. A discussion of the price of gasoline or diesel at the pump is hardly at all unconnected to the price of crude oil, gas and diesel being products directly made from crude oil distillation. The connection isn't even an obtuse one, but a single direct step from one product to the other.

At least in the Toronto area, we're around $1.34 per litre versus that $1.44.

Yes, this was unnessecary. As has been stated many times, this thread was made to discuss how gasoline and diesel price are not going up or down in relation to each other and why everyone thinks it is so. There are ways of discussing this without bringing in oil conspiracies and other things which always seem to be brought up mainly by you with your countless links.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, just because someone disagrees with your opinion is wrong does not automatically mean you are wrong, a trend i have noticed almost every time you post.

Anyway, I know this thread is in BOTH now but lets try to keep it civil and on track as has been asked by Juan several times in this thread.

Thank you.
