it is pretty much accepted that people born in the United States of America or who are naturalized citizens of the USA are called "American".
Sure - anyone who is born on these continents can call themselves "American" but inasmuch as all those folks can call themselves something specific to their own nation, be it Venezuelan, Mexican, Canadian or whatever, they would have to have next to zero personal pride in their own country to call themselves something that would only confuse their citizenship with someone from the USA. |
