Then my friend, In-N-Out is definitely for you.
You need to order your burger "protein style" and it will come wrapped neatly in leaf lettuce instead of between a bun.
Damn Kulots, could you possibly be MORE high maintenance? I have yet to meet someone who didn't think In-n-Out was uniquely cool because there wasn't a bunch of extraneous crap on their menu, but YOU need more variety? LOL, whatev hon - you just stick to Hardee's or whatever the heck they have up in Canuckistan then so you can order up your chicken or tacos or whatnot at a burger place.
And yeah - it's much more fun & cool when you know the secret menu - that's where any variety that can be had is at.

I've been hearing so much (all good) about In-N-Out burgers. I have yet to try one because there aren't any in my neck of the woods.

Except the "Secret Menu" isn't much of a secret anymore. Hell, it's even on their website.
What makes IN-N-Out so great is, like onlyalad said, is the quality of the food you get there. Everything is fresh, and that's just something you don't usually find in a fast food burger joint.

Re: In-N-Out
Bottom line for me, too much hype and definitely a let-down.
Yeah I saw them cutting up the potatoes, but I would have been MORE impressed if the fries actually tasted good. They were bland and dried out. Sure the lettuce is hand-leafed. Too bad that doesn't make my burger taste any better/worse. I think they are using iceberg lettuce, too (not sure), and if they are, then that's even worse because that lettuce has no nutritional value.
Like I said, their food wasn't awful, but after all the hype I really expected more from this place, and the sad truth is that its burger tasted like any of the bajillion burgers I've consumed in my life.
Anyway, if I come across an In-N-Out again, I'll try one of their "secret menu" type stuff and see if it makes a difference.

better still come to New Zealand where even the ones made by "Tits of America" are made as you watch with really fresh ingredients.....one of their main selling points over here since Supersize Me hit the screen.
Without a doubt the very best hamburgers around here happen at my place on a friday night after a long week with ingredients fresh from the farmer's market.....biodynamically grown beef and greens......and with a little horseradish sauce on the side for me and tomatoe sauce for the kids......and complete with fried onion rings so i get a free uninterrupted night's sleep.
I have it on good account that culinary considerations aside, a bit of the old In-N-Out is good for what ails you Kulots......hmmmmm someone had to say it

Re: In-N-Out
I've had some people from So Cal who are die hard In N Out fans come to Iowa. They were impressed by a place called Culver's. They've got some damn good heart clogging butter burgers. But it still doesn't touch the 3x3 animal style

Fucking Tommy Burgers has a place next to my old high school in (da) LB(C).
My buddy and I hit Tommy's on the way out to Lake Powell one time: Chili Burgers and Chili Fries (back when I ate red meat [>89]).
Fucking ripped the interior of that dooley out nasty with the flatus.
But yeah. Tommy's burgers: respek

Re: In-N-Out
You have to realize, this isn't a place to get a gourmet burger. If you want fancy fries, and all sorts of extras, and the ability to order your burger rare etc. then you aren't going to get that at a fast food place.
Its a love it or meh kinda thing, really. I personally really enjoy it every once in a while.

The secret menu is what people like. It makes them feel like they are in the "in" crowd. Also they pay their workers more than most fast food places. They still get high school and college kids to work there instead of people who can not get any other job.
The owners are very Christian. The bottom of the cups have a bible verse and they give food that doesn't sell (may be close to sell by date) to the homeless.

Re: In-N-Out
being from texas, i don't get In-N-Out that often. But, anytime I'm in Cali (or Vegas, right across from the strip) I stop in. I think it's a combination of a lot of factors - food is really fresh, really fast, and really CHEAP all things considered. No, it's not the best burger, but it's really damn good for what you pay.
Plus all the other things mentioned above.. family-owned, christian, higher pay for workers.. etc.
