So we have two apprentices at the shop, Josh and Chong. All the time they bring in these really cool kids that are friends of theirs, for them to practice on, or just to shoot the shit. At least half the time, these kids are helping out at the shop when there.
Well, I get to work today, and the apprentices aren't there. They finally call us and tell us they're at the hospital, one of the friends is in critical condition, 1% survival chance. Apparently late last night he was supposed to meet some of their other friends at a house, and never showed up. Apparently the hill he skateboarded down was steep, and he hit a tree. What the doctors and friends of his can't explain is why there are injurys that wouldn't happen when crashing into a tree, why the back of his skull is bashed in, and why his wallet was a block away, with all his money gone.
So I drive the other apprentice, Frank, to the hospital and was there for 6 hours, to be emotional support and provider of nicotine if nothing else since they're all broke. By the time I left, he was stabilizing some, and responding to people somewhat, and apparently later after I left started breathing normally. This kid is a super nice kid, apparently giving you the shirt off his back if you need it, even if he doesn't know you. Josh told me he lost his wallet once, so Rambo (his nickname) emptied his and gave it to him. I hope this guy survives.

Seriously, sucks for the kid's friends and relatives. I had a friend when I was in sixth grade die on a skateboard. Got speed wobbles going down a steep hill with a sharp turn at the bottom and crashed. Brain dead on impact. I saw the kid about 30 minutes before he died. First kid I knew that died.

Eaaaaasy breezy. It was a joke, and I even agreed it was in bad taste.

You're right, this is an internet forum. An internet forum in a section where it is typical for people to say shit that is usually sarcastic and unflinchingly uncomfortable. There are other forums (EOTH) where I would not have posted such a facetious and poorly palatable joke.

Also remember, there are other parties other than Democrats and Republicans, including Independents (which, truth be told, is more my lean).

Now, we're thinking of doing a benifit thing for his family, to take care of hospital bills and funeral expenses. 100% of my profits will go to them, we just gotta figure out when and what we're doing.

I mean that seriously. Don't let a bad taste joke deflate the honesty of my respect that I have for your willingness to help.

Shit of the deal is always for the people that survive. The bullshit financial burden is like salt in the wound. Helping alleviate that part of the situation will help people focus on the actual healing process of the loss.

It does seem strange about some of the circumstances surrounding the accident. I am sorry to hear of his demise. Hopefully, the circle of friends helping out and showing respect will assist the family with acceptance of their loss.

When I was 17, I was goofing off with some friends; our bullshit resulted in the death of one of us. Carrying the coffin of your best friend and watching it be lowered into a hole in the ground was a hell of a reality check.

Don't take anything, or anyone, for granted. You only have the day you're living. Live it to the fullest!

My hat is off to each of ya'll in the shop for what ya'll are trying to do!

has anyone mentioned anything about foul play? I mean, his head injuries were uncharacteristic of the nature of his 'accident' and his wallet was found empty a block away. If someone did this to him they should be brought to justice

Sorry to hear it man. The mods know of this, but I'm going through a similar thing. My best friend had a quad accident not more than a block from his house...same deal, brain damage, brain dead, and now he's a few blocks from my house, about 6 feet deep.

Didn't make too much of a big deal about it publicly here. Just shit I had/have to go through alone. I think I posted pics of him and I here from our adventures in messiko. One cool cat, and I miss him dearly.
