if you aint ever been in the desert when it rains at a fair clip you wouldn't believe what damage can ensue .
years ago i went tdy to ft. irwin (30 some miles out of barstow) for some comm stuff . they were re-activating it or something to that effect .
it figures ... when the C130 landed in barstow the clouds were piling up on the mountains to the west . by the time we got rolling to ft.irwin it had turned ugly .
we got about half way there and stopped on a crest in the road .
i looked up a wash and seen what looked like smoke , except this stuff was getting closer at a high rate of speed .
in a matter of 15 seconds there was a wall of water about 100 feet to the front , six feet higher than the road . i could see a total of four washes fore and aft ... all were in a similar state .
some portable bridges were set in place and a couple of tank retrievers hooked a bus , a 2.5 ton and three pov's . we made it to the base after a four hour delay ... yeah , there was two feet of mud/wet sand in the barracks and many of the roads were impassable .
here's another "rain" video ... from back in my younger and wilder days :
i liked her voice ... and i sure wouldn't have kicked her out of bed for eating crackers .
I've only been in desert rains in the US Southwest. I'm assuming the torrent and rushing waters are similar. Keep the rain out and try not to step in the mud (or was that some Shiite??).
