Re: I just got me a zune
is it the new zune or the old model? not a bad price for either seeing as I paid $95 for my older model one.
The car kit is always a plus. mstad got one of THESE off of woot a while ago that's kind of nifty, though it does make the zune very bulky. And I've got one of THESE which actually sound pretty nice as far as a small speaker system goes. If you look around you can find the dock for well under $100. I only paid $45 for mine after shipping from woot.

I haven't been able to find that many accessories for the Zune, but I've seen car kits and docks for hooking into your home stereo system.

Beats me if its the new or old model. Its this one here.

Def would be into a car kit of sometype in the not to distant future. I just keep hearing how these FM modulators aren't very good at all. maybe its the people just getting bad experiences or whatnot.

that is the older model. basically the same but i think the new one is a little smaller.
I got a car kit for christmas and it's worked just fine. well, it did until my cigarette lighter in my car decided to go tits up. won't charge my phone or anything. anybody have any clue how much it'd be to fix it?

ok , i gotta ask the obvious question ... did you check the fuse block ?
sometimes there is a fusible link inline instead of what one would normally expect to find .
usually a ciggy lighter socket is pretty durable , they hardly ever give fits .
i have seen the connector come loose from the back of the socket .
it is not a pricey fix , even with replacement of the socket .
at the most , it should take about 15 minutes to narrow down the cause .

buy a fuse?
Or check if the plug in back has wiggled free or the wire gotten old and broken in behind.
Wiring is fun!

Re: I just got me a zune
Just glad to see some people have started realizing how crappy and overpriced ipods are. By far the worst purchase I have ever made. I'm just waiting for it to die so I can justify buying another mp3 player. Maybe I'll just set it up for disk use and get a zune next time they are on woot.

Re: I just got me a zune
I love my zune, and my daughter really likes hers too. Bigger screen than an iPod video and far less proprietary than Apple crap too if you can believe that. I can't tell you the hoops I had to jump thru, just to get some songs my kid downloaded from iTunes in some protected .m4p crap format (because a friend gave her a giftcard for her b-day), converted over to a format that everyone uses (mp3). Weak-ass shit I tell ya...but I digress.
Any accessories you need you can surely find at Amazon.
I am not too happy with the dealie that broadcasts to your car's FM radio though, the sound quality is teh suck. Far better to get a hard-wired auxiliary input for your car stereo in that instance if you have a head unit that will allow it. Most head units that allow for an external CD changer are so equipped if they don't have a jack already & you can find the adapters at Crutchfield, or in my case for my Pioneer deck (over 5 years old) there is one available at my local Best Buy.
Short story - easy to find whatever you need just look online.
You will like your player & that is what I paid for mine (and the kid's) refurbs on w00t 6 months ago so you got a good deal.

Re: I just got me a zune
The only other question is.. Can I make the zune fill itself with random songs from my library? And how. Or do i have to go do that manually?
And Yamon. I did get the Shuffle 1gig when it dropped to 50 bucks.. not bad.. but i cant get past how much itunes sucks.

Re: I just got me a zune
well you do need to install the Zune software, which I personally think is lame but, meh it's not a big deal particularly if you have assembled your library in Windows Media Player already, and even that isn't absolutely necessary.
The Zune software will find your library on your PC, and if your library is in a non-standard place you can point it to it. Now note that I do not "auto-sync" my library to the zune because I don't necessarily WANT everything on my PC to go to my Zune, but the auto-sync default is "ON" so make sure you un-check auto-sync in the Zune software before actually hooking your unit (huh huh) up to the PC.
Once the software finds your library it will start categorizing your mp3s based on either the ID3 tags or just the raw file info, then in order to get the files to sync to your zune (at least what I do manually) is, once the Zune is attached to the PC, you right click on the album, or more commonly, the artist in your system library (within the zune software) and select "sync to my device".
If you do it that way any time you add another album to the folder of an artist that you select to sync to the Zune, the software will sync the new album to the zune. It is actually pretty easy & hey if you mess up you can always just delete everything from the Zune & start over, it won't hurt your files on your PC.
Oh, and use the USB ports on the back of your PC to connect the Zune, the syncing usually goes faster with no errors - the first time I tried to hook mine up I used the front USB port & it apparently wasn't USB2.0 so it went real slow & errored out, but the back ports worked like a charm.
