Re: Civilization 4 - can't get on-line
Oh snap, I just downloaded this the other day. I moved into a new place, and had NOTHING to do, so I bought it.
Pretty sweet game, but I suck. Haven't tried online, since I get smashed against the easy computer guys. Even when you totally wipe someone out in war, you don't get their shit? What gives??

Re: Civilization 4 - can't get on-line
I found chasing the discovery of religions and music as a major key to get ahead of the AI... I can beat 50% of the time in monarchy mode but past that I don't make it very far....
I've gotten so sucked in I have bought beyond the sword and upgraded from 512 kb to 4 megs!!!!!!!!! The senerios make an intresting twist....
Remember music unlocks monostaries which increase your rate of research as well as cultural value, which will allow you to peacefully take land from your opponet..........
Sorry bout the spelling, but I'm on my third scotch.......
If anyone wants to try the e-mail version with me, I am game.....

Re: Civilization 4 - can't get on-line
I know the game pretty well. My favorite strategy is clearly warfare!
For war there are key techs you should research as quickly as possible, that would be 'Bronze Working' for revealing copper (to make axemen) and 'Animal Husbandry' to reveal horses (for horsearchers to counter enemy axemen).
With these resources revealed I race to the nearest with my first available settler.
If you'r really fast you can squeeze in a single pre-catapult war :D
As I said, warfare is my favorite strategy, but not always the most prudent. For example if I don't start the game near any opponent capitals I may focus more on peace-techs.
A really cool thing in Civ is the different ways of winning. Have anyone ever won a cultural victory for example? :-)
(Don't really get how to win diplomatic victory though, can't really get the AI to cast votes in my favor [Unless vassal'ed ofc]) (And by the way guys, space race is cool and all, but it's for whimps ;-])
All yours
Wanni

I finally meet a junky... Can not stop playing...
Diplomatic victory can be achieved by trading in the ai's favor at least 3 times per round and triggering early voting, but you need the beyond the sword expantion which is worth the money...
A cultural victory is easy if you build lots of temples and place all you religious buildings in 3 cities.... Put off scientific method, because that stops research from monastaries.....
Please let me know if you would like to play via email...
PM me!
