For the guys who remember the classics...
I recently re-discovered abandonware on the net. Remember the classics like the Police Quest series, Space Quest, King's Quest, Wing Commander, Leisure Suit Larry, UFO:Xcom, Monkey Island, Gold Rush, etc?
Fuck, I got x86 literate with these games. Before that it was Commodore 64 where you still had to load with tape drive.
So anyway, after some careful searching, I found a great place where they still have the software for free download. Hell, it takes less than two ticks of fuckall to download the games. I remember having to ride my bicycle to a friends house with a shitload of floppies to (illegally) copy them. Those were the days before copy-protection... Then you get home with all 14 discs hoping that everyone of them works, otherwise no dice for you!
It seems that most of the abandonware sites still list the old Sierra stuff as ESA protected, but there are sites which do not. Mine is not to question why, eh?
You can't believe how much fun these games are, even after all this time. It's nice going back to the roots of your gaming experience. Thank God for DosBox. I even located Space Quest 0 : Replicated. It's a fan-made game based on the same principles of SQ 1 & 2. Pretty damn good stuff.
It's sad, really - they don't make 'em like this anymore. I mean the new games are really awesome, but I haven't seen any recent "adventure" games worth playing. Back in the day the game revolved around the story, not the size of your hardware wallet.
Anyone else still playing these old games?

Re: For the guys who remember the classics...
Boy, I use to spend all night playing them!
I was a complete junky back then. How Netiquete just vanished after a while. Getting software and pron you had to 2400 baud Dial up a BBS servers and ratio FTP all the goodies, hoping your mom didn't decide to pick up the phone during a transfer.
My first trully MP game was probably Action Quake 2, then the early CS betas (probably still have them backed up on CD somewhere with the tons of maps models etc.)

Re: For the guys who remember the classics...
I started riping my Sega CD games so I could play them without risk. Soon as there is a saturn emulator I'm going to do the same. No one ever wants them though. Oh well. Theres a few sites around with most of the sega CD ISOs on torrents if you dont know how to rip the games.
Tip: Use Alcohol or Clone CD. I've had issues with other "ripping" software.

Re: For the guys who remember the classics...
The Space Quest series was one of my favorites. One of the Kings Quests was the first game I went over to my friends house, saw him playing it, and thought "holy shit, this has a person actually talking in it? I need to get a computer". Been a fan of PC games over console games ever since then. I almost bought all those boxed sets that were re-released several years ago of all those games Sierra put out. I agree, they don't make games like that anymore.

Re: For the guys who remember the classics...
Oh man...I remember playing those old Sierra titles back in the late 80's and early 90's. The various "Quest" series rocked so hard.
I recently started playing "Secret of Monkey Island" using the ScummVM emulator. I haven't played that game in 17 years, and playing it again was so fun. I downloaded the second installment of "Monkey Island" (which I never played before) and look forward to giving that a whirl shortly.
Yeah, the graphics compared to today are not the greatest, but they have a certain charm to them. And the gameplay is as still as rock solid as ever.
