My system performance.

Hello!
I'm curious, and wondering if any spec-heads can help me.
I''ve got a core2duo 1.86 ghz OC'd to 2.4 ghz with extra cooling.
Ive got a Geforce 7600 GT 256Mb
but ive only got 512 Mb ram.
I can still run oblivion ( after tweaking ) on full gfx settings at an average of 30-40 fps.

Now, there are some games coming out that i really want. ( such as supreme commander )
In real terms how much of a performance hit does my 512 mb ram give me? my gfx card and processor are pretty good, i want to get some more RAM, just havnt got round to it. but in technical terms, can i survive with that much for a bit longer, or will it cripple the next gen. of games coming out? what kinda FPS hit will i get?

You can survive on what you got right now but you will not get the full performance if the game is requiring more than what you got. Always look on the specs for the game you are wanting to play and see what they recommend. If you have what they recommend then no need to worry.

Re: My system performance.

I'd suggest:
Filling any available RAM slots with 512MB or 1GB bars.
Or upgrade the memory to 2GB.

Have at least two physical hard drives:
One for OS & programs the other for swap/temp files & archives
faster & smaller size are better (higher throughput & lower access time)
Having two hard drives allow them to work at the same time (depending on type, connection & other connected drives).

Get more ram before you do anything else. I use 2 gig. 1 gig is the minimum anyone should have IMO.

Re: My system performance.

At the very minimum, pick up a second stick of 512, it'll help with performance and allow you to run dual channel. RAM prices have been coming down quite a bit so it shouldn't be too expensive.
