MICHIGAN v. OHIO STATE! WOW!! AFTER THAT WE NEED A REMATCH IN THE TITLE GAME!!

Um...I don't think so.

Ok, it was a terrific, exciting game. Two college football heavyweights stood toe-to-toe on the biggest stage of the year and exchanged haymakers for nearly four hours. (Where was Michigan's stifling defense? They gave up more yards in the first half than previous opponents averaged per game this year!) Just like USC vs. Texas in last season's title game, this game somehow managed to live up to the unbelievable pre-game hype. By the way, the Buckeyes held off a late charge by the Wolverines to win 42-39.

Within seconds of the game's end, ESPN/ABC's Bonnie Bernstein was asking Jim Tressel about an OSU/UM rematch in January. Tressel flatly refused to discuss that, insisting that Ohio State was going to enjoy this win and that's all. I'm sure everyone watching expected that response, but I'm just as sure that everyone does want to know what the coaches feel about that possibility. But this isn't the coaches' place to rant. It is mine.

There should absolutely NOT be a rematch between Ohio State and Michigan for the National Championship. No way.

Allow me to expand: College football teams play a full season's worth of games for a shot at the title. A SHOT. ONE CHANCE. Under the current college football system, most Division 1-A teams don't even get that one shot. There is not one circumstance that could convince me that any team ever deserves two chances.

The Wolverines had their shot tonight. They performed well, but not well enough. They missed their chance. And no matter what happens to USC, Rutgers, and everyone else over the next three weeks or so, someone other than Michigan should play the Buckeyes in January.

R.I.P. Coach Schembechler. College football and, indeed, all of sports, has lost a legend.

Another thought that was hurting my head...

Re: No team deserves two shots

Both teams looked very sloppy, especially Michigan. (which is why they lost). I agree that there should not be a rematch, and I believe there will not be a rematch...As much as I hate to say it, I think that USC will go to the championship game. Their decisive win over Cal tonight solidified their shot IMO. I hate USC with a passion, but the only thing that stands between USC and a chance at OSU is the Florida GAYtors...

I am a little drunk right now, but I honestly believe that my Seminoles can pull of the huge upset next week and ruin Florida's chances at the national championship game. We looked awful against a MAC team today winning only 28-20.....I just think that this game, since a decent bowl is out of the question, is the Florida State Seminoles' bowl game and they will play like it.

Back to the subject, OSU wins the national championship, I don't think anyone can beat them this year...

Re: No team deserves two shots

I disagree.. Just because Michigan played OSU on the final game of their regualr season, Shouldn't mean they dont deserve to play again.. had they played in week 3 or whatnot we wouldn't even be having this discussion and Michigan would be playing OSU for the title.

However, Lets say there is a rematch and michigan wins this one.. Who is the real national champion? Just cause Micigan won the "title" game they would have it. I say they deserve to be co-champions in this case..

USC doesn't even deserve to be #3.. they havn't played that good all year. Im not sure about Florida.. but they didn't play so well against the cocks.

All that being said. I dont think anyone has anything for OSU this year.

It's things like this that make some people want a college playoff.

If USC shouldn't be ranked #3, who should be? Florida? Possibly. Notre Dame? I hope not.

And yeah, unless this long break screws with their heads, no one will have anything for OSU and Troy Smith in the title game.

see, here's the thing...the only team that's gonna be spoiling Florida's BCS hopes is Arkansas, who is going to kill Florida in the SEC championship game Dec. 2nd.

Re: No team deserves two shots

I think the title game will come down to the USC ND game...
If ND wins, then it will be a rematch. If USC wins then they will play OS for the National Title.
As far as the "should bes" and "could bes"...I think a playoff system would solve all those problems. Boise State...not national champion material perhaps...but they are as good as they could be. a perfect 11-0. Look at Basketball last year...who had George Mason in the final 4?
Put something in and if Michigan earns a rematch, then so be it...if not, then someone else can use to OS.

I think the playoff system would be great.. Utilize the same BCS standings like it is now.. Then take the top 8 and let em play for it.

Every other major sport has a tournament, even college B-ball.

It would eliminate the controversy there seems to be EVERY year now.
