How the hell do you know she has BPD. Did you interview her? La Belle Indifference herr Ira? Geez get a clue. Don't you have a real practice somewhere to torture people with?

For once I will have to agree with you Otis. For him to say that she has BPD without even meeting her is a joke. However, I have read his book and I am convinced that BPD is a large problem among young women (and some men for that matter) these days. I have seen specific cases of it but that is in people that I have known personally, not someone I read about.

I am glad that you see what a huge problem it is. I am not trying to diagnose Kate, per se. but this case is so similar to the ones that took place in the past that I believe that there should be a mandatory psychiatric evaluation of Kate and Kobe as well. It is not disputed that she had two "cry for help" suicide attempts this year and because of that alone, I am justified in my position. The legal system needs to adapt so that falsely accused human beings are protected just as much as women who are really raped in a dating situation or otherwise. I am a strong advocate of my position, just as Kobe's lawyers are strong advocates of his innocence. Do you expect them to say: Well, we really weren't there and we haven't personally examined Kate, so it is possible that Kobe raped her. They are not going to say that, nor am I. If everyone is like Firebird and reads what I have to say, then great. Draw your own conclusions, and that will be fine. But to attack me personally is missing the point.

I am happy to tell you that this morning, i was watching "today" on NBC and Katie Couric interviewed two lawyers: One was the previous Denver DA, the other a defense attorney from Miami, FLA (who's name is not Ira... are you going around with an alias??? LOL). Anyhow the man from Miami was stating how the vic needs to undergo a psych eval, etc, etc, she may have BPD - Basically all the stuff you have said on this forum. How happy you must be that BPD is getting national exposure (even if it was only for 4 mins on Today).

Anyhow... Remember how I told you that i was researching something to discuss? Well, I cannot seem to find the article that I wanted to send to you, but I will do my best to put forth the jist of the article, and accurately, I hope.

Ok, well first off, i have read your book, and like I have been saying before, I believe that this can be true. But also, I feel that many victims can be clustered into this diagnosis, and someone who harmed them can get off, if things get out of hand.

The article that I was looking for was about Malignant Narcissist Disorder (at least I think that was the technical term). The jist of the article is of the following (Please forgive my ignorance on the subject, maybe someone will know the details)

BPD was an actual disorder until the national mental heath institute (again, I am kinda going from memory.. this can be wrong) determined that too many people fell into the category, so they lowered its grade.. like from disorder to something lesser. Therefore it was no longer admissable in court.

Here is my question:

If professionals (psychologists, psychiatrists) have in the past too freely latched onto a diagnosis, do you think this can happen with BPD?

My biggest problem with BPD is that a lot of teenage girls, or women seem to "fit" the profile- which you contend with. But from what I read about MND, the same thing applies, and the author had a whole section on that. I can think of a lot of people that I know that exhibit these tendencies.

I guess the point is mute. Any legal system is fallable, and even if the vic can be diagnosed with bpd, or tendencies thereof, but actually got raped- there is no way to prove it. And vice versa.

Also you park on a driveway and drive on a parkway! BPD is so pervasive that more people suffer from it than all nine of the other personality disorders combined. One of them is narcissistic personality disorder but I have never heard of Malignant Narcissistic Disorder. Take a look at DSM-IV for a full description of the ten personality disorders. When a BPD sufferer gets into a Kobe type situation rape is almost impossible because the BPD sufferer is trying as hard as possible to seduce her target. Also, we pride ourselves on a criminal justice system where innocent people are not to be convicted even if some actually guilty people unjustly go free. But the system will not protect the innocent until BPD is fully recognized and demystified.
I did not see the Today show, but 4 minutes on that is worth a great deal. I wish you would have remembered the name of the Miami attorney. Maybe someone else saw it and knows.
