Birth Control Patch
When you are on the patch and at the end of the third week (start of patch free week) is it still effective when there is no patch in place? Last night my girlfriend came over and she told me that she always has two days between when she removes the patch and her period starts and she said the doctor never said anything to her about the effectiveness in this period. She originally went on it because she had an irregular period and this was several years ago.
Simply put, is the birth control method still viable during patch free times as long as she is following the instructions properly?
And no we didn't have sex just to be safe.

Re: Birth Control Patch
You should never want to have sex with a girl while she's on her period... period. Waaaay too messy and you can't taste her (cause I like that). As far as your question goes, I think it's ok cause the next egg doesn't "drop" till usually a few days after the period is over. I know that sperm can survive for a few days, but it's probably unlikely that there is anything to worry about.

Re: Birth Control Patch
It's just like with the pill. You take three weeks of active hormones and then either nothing for a week or placebo (sugar) pills. As long as she applies the patch for the three weeks, that is all that is required for the birth control to work appropriately. The two day lapse is the time it takes for the hormones to leave her body and her period to start.

Re: Birth Control Patch
The ex used the patch. No problems whatsoever with the off weeks. As for the mess, it was the first time we had done it in the dark. Quite the surprise when the lights came on.

Re: Birth Control Patch
Yea I don't intend on having sex during her period I was just confused because I though your period was supposed to start very close to when the patch was removed.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Re: Birth Control Patch
I don't think it is a big deal to have sex when a girl is on her period (only with a girlfriend, not some random). Granted, I'm not going down on her then, but girls are sometimes super horny when they're on their period. You do need to take a few precautions, lay down a sheet or something, and clean up afterwards, but if we both have fun and clean up, whats wrong with a little sex?

Re: Birth Control Patch
Well, it costs me $1.50 per load of laundry. I'm not completely opposed, but if I did I'd rather it be in the shower. Seeing as I share a bathroom with a lot of other people who would likely fuck with us (i.e. Open the curtain throw shit at us) I'm not about to mess around with that.

Re: Birth Control Patch
I dont like blood on my dick. I guess thats just a personal preference. As for a womens cycle. 28 days. Roughly days 13-16 are the fertile days. Every other day you cant get pregnant. (This is not competely detailed and every women is different but roughly 6 fertile days all in a row).

Re: Birth Control Patch
I understand this, but the reason she is on birth control is because she had an irregular period. I don't want to fuck around with any sort of rythym control. I think I'm just gonna use condoms + birth control from now on.

Re: Birth Control Patch
Better safe than sorry. The patch is just like the pill, exactly like OG said. Just because she's not wearing it, doesn't mean the bc is not working like it's supposed. I personally hated the patch. I gained 20-25 lbs and had a period every other week.

Re: Birth Control Patch
Trust me Im not advocating the rhythm method. Im an Animal Reproduction major (Studying to be a vet). Work with cows every day trying to synchronize 100s of cycles and what not. We routinely miss estrous (period of fertility) on the cows during the cycle because its not always easy to recognize. I sure as hell wouldnt use a method that relies on changing cycles and analysis of cervical mucus and what not.
That being said using the patch or pill is 6 to one half dozen to another. THey are the same thing just like OG and Cinn said so dont worry about it. I was just mentioning the cycle to tell you that the chances of her being pregnant even if the patch wasnt working were slim because of the proximity to her period in the cycle.
